Race report by Alexander Hagberg

The 42nd edition of the annual US Indoor Champs was once again held in Independence, near Cleveland, Ohio, in the USA. This iconic race sees a big field of carpet racers from not only America, but other parts of the world as well. This year's race saw 354 entries in 13 classes. The XRAY and RC America team was well represented, with a rather big group of drivers, looking to put in results in every class!

The Stock and Super Stock TC classes were dominated by our team driver Mike Gee. Mike drove his X4'23 cars to the top spot in qualifying in both classes. In the Super Stock class, he took a tone to win in a competitive field. In the Stock TC class, his finals came off to a rocky start with a mistake in A1 - but he recovered to take the win in A2 & 3 which awarded him the win in this popular class! Marc Livermore put in a consistent performance in both classes, finishing 6th overall in both! In the Super Stock TC main final, Mike was also joined by the two Canadian XRAY drivers Martin Lecuyer and Patrick St. Germain - both showed great pace to put themselves in the show in this class!

Super Stock TC results:

  1. Mike Gee - XRAY X4
    2. Craig Xavier
    3. Eric Anderson

TC Stock results:

  1. Mike Gee - XRAY X4
    2. Eric Anderson
    3. Craig Xavier

In modified TC - Keven Hebert showed a blistering pace in qualifying, which put him on pole in this prestigious class. Unfortunately, he had a mistake early on in the single main final, which meant that he had to fight his way back from dead last. Keven eventually recovered to 5th overall. I finished 4th, after struggling a bit for pace throughout the weekend. Notable performance from Chase Lemieux in his first ever TC race to claim 6th overall! An impressive result for the young driver!

In the modified 12th scale class, both I and Keven Hebert had good speed in qualifying and in the triple mains, just a bit of tough luck. I definitely had the chance for a podium (or more), but threw it away with two costly mistakes in the mains! Unfortunately we could not convert the speed of our X12'23 cars into better results than 5th and 6th overall!

Congratulations also to Troy Gubbins for making the A-final in his first ever outing with the X12'23 chassis!

The popular USGT class saw a good performance from Cory Craig, putting his X4 3rd on the grid for the main final. An eventful final eventually made Cory drop back down the order, from which he would recover to 4th overall. Congratulations to Martin Lecuyer on his podium spot in 3rd! Martin drove great all week!

USGT results:

  1. Matthew Abey
    2. Evan Banta
    3. Martin Lecuyer - XRAY X4

FWD saw a competitive performance from our team driver Marc Livermore to claim 3rd overall, driving an X4F'23!

FWD results:

  1. Chase Schell
    2. Mike Zufelt
    3. Marc Livermore - XRAY X4F

Congratulations to Evan Banta for taking the win in the VTA category! Evan was closely followed by the always fast Cory Craig, who chased him down to secure a strong 1-2 finish for the team in the class!

VTA results:

  1. Evan Banta - XRAY X4
    2. Cory Craig - XRAY X4
    3. Kenny Thornton

Congratulations also to Eli Ezrow for his strong performance in the 12th scale Masters Class! Eli took his X12'23 to the runner up spot, finishing just 8 tenths short of the win in this class!

1/12 Masters results:

  1. Jim Piersol
    2. Eli Ezrow - XRAY X12
    3. Chuck Lonergan
