Rounds 3 and 4 of the BRCA LMP12 Nationals were held last weekend in Tamworth. This weekend followed on from the successful start in Eastbourne last month and had a capacity entry of around 80 drivers in attendance. Stock and modified classes were again offered with the largest entry of 78 drivers in the stock class providing an incredibly competitive race weekend.

Tamworth laid out a great track design with a mixture of fast flowing and slower more technical corners that required full concentration to achieve a fast time and really showed off the performance of the LMP12 cars.

Round 3 on Saturday would see an incredibly close battle for pole position in the stock class with the top five drivers being separated by around 3 seconds. Mark Stiles would lead the early rounds before Andy Murray took to the front in round 3. However it would be all change in round 5 when Sam Coult, who had been one of those cars in the top five put, in a fantastic run to take pole position by 2 seconds from Andy Murray in second place. Mark Stiles would line up third ahead of Andy Smith and Adam Mackman.

In modified Ollie Payne would top the timesheets every round and would line up ahead of Dan Robins and James Hart.

In the stock A final Sam would lead away from the front but would be pursued very closely by Andy Murray initially before Andy clipped a corner and dropped back into the pursuing pack. The following cars of Andy Smith, Mark Stiles, Adam Mackman, Ben Vincent and Morgan Williams were circulating in a train throughout the whole race. Sam took advantage of the gap and drove a smooth clean race to maintain his lead. Andy Murray would make his way back to second and in the dying laps put Sam under huge pressure before catching a corner and dropping back down the order. Sam would cross the line before the tone to be the only man to finish on a 39 lap and secure his first national win. Congratulations Sam. Mark Stiles would come home second ahead of Andy Smith who completed the podium in third.

Sunday would see drivers compete in round 4. The track layout remained the same but continued to evolve and we would see faster times posted by the majority of drivers as they adapted to the higher grip levels.

The first three rounds of qualifying were all about one man with Adam Mackman topping the times having found some extra pace from his fifth place qualifying the day before. Andy Murray couldn’t have been closer sitting just 0.2 of second behind in round 3. The final round of qualifying looked like it was going to be a battle between Adam and Andy and for the first half of the race it was looking that way, however Michael Bolt then moved to the front of the timing sheets. He had been sitting in fifth place but a fantastic drive would give him pole position by a second and a half from Adam Mackman. Andy Murray would line up third, just three hundredths ahead of Ben Vincent. Andy Smith and Mark Stiles in fourth and fifth being the only other drivers to be on the 39 laps of the lead car.

In modified Ollie Payne would again line up in pole position from Nathan Goodban and Louis Parker.

In the stock A final Michael Bolt would have a moment off the line as his car slid sideways before regaining composure and benefitting from contact behind to open a small gap. Michael then checked out driving a brilliantly consistent and fast race to take a tone to flag win and his first national win in some style. Congratulations Michael. Andy Murray would give chase throughout but was unable to close the gap and would finish in second just ahead of Andy Smith. Yesterday’s winner Sam would finish in fourth and a special mention to Mark Jewitt in 5th having moved up from 10th on the grid.
