Shortly after 10 AM CT on Friday morning, Ryan Maifield posted a message to his Facebook page apologizing for his actions during the Buggy final at the ROAR Fuel Off-Road Nationals. Following engine trouble that knocked the former national champion out of contention around the first pit stop of the race, Maifield broke his radio on the drivers' stand. By the time this article was posted, the post had reached over 750 reactions and 90 comments, mostly positive reviews of Maifield's acknowledgement of what happened.

I've thought this over for a few days and it's time to say something about my actions at the ROAR Nationals during the buggy final. First and foremost, I want to apologize to my fellow competitors, I'm sure that was a distraction to them and that is my main regret.

I am a very motivated and passionate individual who wears their emotions on the sleeve. Everyone handles situations differently, and in my opinion, that is what makes the world so interesting. If everyone was vanilla and kept their emotions inside all the time, the world and everything inside it would be boring . Were my actions unnecessary and wrong, yes for sure, were they out of context, no. The Roar Nationals, although frustrating, is the biggest race of the year for pro drivers in the U.S. This is an event you gear up for all year and when things go wrong it can cause emotions that are hard to control.

I want to apologize to all my sponsors for my actions and also thank them for understanding the situation. I want to congratulate Jared Tebo and Ty Tessman for their national championships they earned this weekend. The track was tough, and to conquer it, you needed a cool head which I obviously did not have during the buggy main event. Thanks to ROAR and the Stateline track crew, they put on a great event and I look forward to the next one. – Ryan Maifield
