Over the past several months the controversy of SPEC class motors has festered into quite a heated debate. Various wire sizes and windings within various manufacturer's brushless SPEC motors are rumored to be unfair advantages on the race track, and shouldn't be legal for SPEC racing.

The argument escalated immensely during the ROAR Onroad Paved Nationals, where one motor was the dominant force on the track within the SPEC classes.

Some have said that the ROAR inspection process and approval of these motors is "unfair" and/or "incorrect", backing up their statements with thorough inspections and tests of their own using ROAR's SPEC motor class specifications and rules. ROAR has announced today their plans to address the issue, and hopefully settle down the tempers of unhappy SPEC racers.

ROAR Announcement:

Recent developments in the spec motor market have raised concerns that fair and equal competition is being increasingly compromised by a widening performance gap among ROAR approved motors. Spec classes are fundamentally defined as having a certain amount of parity among key performance elements, which should produce relatively similar levels of performance. Having heard these concerns from a sufficient number of its members, ROAR will perform spot checks on some of the more popular motors to ensure they’re still in compliance with the ROAR specifications. Only motors found to be non-compliant will be removed from the approved motor list.

With all of that being said, what is your opinions on the current SPEC class motors and debate?
