Race report from Team Orion:

Jorn Neumann & Team Orion 2014 Double Euro Champs!

The 2014 European 1/10 Electric Off-Road Championships were held last week in Trelleborg, Sweden. Team Orion Factory Driver's Jorn Neumann & David Ronnefalk were both in attendance to try and add a few more European Championships to their already impressive resumes.

Monday, July 14th: Open Practice 2wd
Tuesday, July 15th: Practice/ 3 Rounds of Qualifying 2wd
Wednesday, July 16th: 2 Rounds of Qualifying / Triple A-Mains 2WD
Thursday, July 17th: Open Practice 4wd
Friday, July 18th: Practice / 3 Rounds of Qualifying 4wd
Saturday, July 19th: 2 Rounds of Qualifying / Triple A-Mains 4wd

In the 2wd Modified Buggy class, Team Orion's Jorn Neumann would show impressive speed during qualifying by TQ'ing rounds #1, #2, & #3. Yokomo's Lee Martin would then go onto TQ rounds #4 & #5. EFRA rules would state that each drivers 2 best rounds of out 5 would be used to determine the overall qualifying order. Neumann and Martin would both tie with a perfect score of 0 points. Martin would end up taking the overall TQ after both drivers laps and times were added together as Martin was the only driver to run 17 laps in his 5th round TQ. Team Orion's David Ronnefalk also showed great speed to make the A-Main and start 7th on the grid.

A-Main #1 would see a great battle between TQ Lee Martin and Jorn Neumann throughout the entire race. Martin and Neumann swapped the lead back and forth several times making it very exciting to watch. On the last lap, Martin was able to make it to the finish line first and take the Win while Neumann was involved in a last corner pile-up that would have him finish 4th.

A-Main #2 saw both Martin and Neumann getting out to a good, clean start. After the first minute of racing, Martin and Neumann had separated themselves from the field. On the very next lap, Martin who was leading made a mistake on the front double jump by just landing on the inside pipe to allow Neumann to get by and take the lead. Over the next 3-minutes, Neumann would hold off several attempts from Martin to make a pass and would hold on to take the Win and force the 2wd European Championship to a 3rd and final A-Main!

A-Main #3 had Martin lead the field around for lap #1 with Neumann in close pursuit. Halfway through lap #2, Martin went over the center triple jump and landed on a back-marker that had crossed lanes from the back straight. This allowed Neumann to get by and take the lead. Neumann would go onto drive a perfect 4-minutes while holding a big lead to take home the 2wd Modified Buggy European Championship!

In the 4wd Modified Buggy class, it was again a battle for the overall TQ between Team Orion's Jorn Neumann and Yokomo's Lee Martin. After all 5 rounds of qualifying were complete, it was Neumann and Martin both with a perfect score of 0 points. Both drivers laps and times were calculated to break the tie. This time it was Jorn Neumann that would take the overall TQ honors. Team Orion's David Ronnefalk showed great pace and consistency to qualify 4th overall.

A-Main #1 would see Neumann take full advantage from his pole position on the grid as the start tone went off. Neumann would set a fast and consistent pace that couldn't be matched by his competition. Neumann went onto lead every lap and was the only driver to make it by for the 18th lap to take the convincing Win!

A-Main #2 saw Neumann once again have a great start and lead the field around for lap #1. 2nd qualifier Lee Martin stayed right with Jorn for the first 2-minutes of the race. Neumann then dropped the hammer and began laying down very fast laps and began to pull away from Martin. Neumann would continue this pace throughout the rest of the A-Main to comfortably take the Win by 5-seconds and take the 4wd Modified Buggy European Championship!
