Three Easy Steps For Turning Faster Lap Times
As racers we’re always looking for ways to improve our lap times. We study the heat sheets and pour over our fastest times to try and find tenths of a second. Should I change tires? Should I work on my setup? How do I find that elusive extra speed every time I hit the track? AMain.com manager Marty Korn discusses three areas to focus on to shave your times:
1) Make Subtle Changes
Setup, setup, setup. Make one change every run and take notes. Never make two changes at once unless you’re very familiar with the effects the change will have on your car.
2) Push Hard In Simple Sections
Focus on braking points and where you can and can’t push hard. Difficult sections are often the place to be careful and simpler sections are where the calculated risks can be taken.
3) Be Adaptable
Monitor track conditions and adjust accordingly. Your setup may start out perfect but as the track changes or deteriorates you may need to make adjustments to keep your car working well. Don’t be afraid to make adjustments either. If the track is changing so should your setup.
