The first PNWC Mexican Regionals were held at the HobbyShop.MX track located in the State of Mexico. Drivers from several Mexican states gathered at the Centro Comercial Interlomas Mall, for a great showing of 87 entries. 4 classes were raced, Box Stock, 2WD Stock, Super Stock and 2WD Mod.

After 6 exciting qualifying rounds, Patricio Ibarra was able to hold the TQ in the Box Stock Class. Pepe Alvidrez from Chihuahua took the honors in the 2WD Mod Class. For 2WD Stock and Superstock, it was the Mexican Sportscar superstar Luis “Chapulin” Díaz that landed the top spot.

After qualifying, triple mains were held to determine the class winners. In Box Stock, Juan Herrero won the first and second races securing the big trohpy. Patricio Ibarra and Guillermo Jimenez completed the podium with their Kyosho MR03’s.

In the 2WD Stock Class, Díaz took the win for the first round. For the second round it was the driver from Monterrey Daniel Ornelas that was able to shake off Diaz for the win. We expected the third main to be a showdown between both drivers, but unfortunately Ornelas faced battery issues on his PN 2.5 car, that relegated him to third place. This opened the door for Diaz to secure the first title of the night followed by Team Queretaro’s driver, Mito López.

On the growing Superstock class, Mito López took the win with his GL car for the first main as Luis Diaz faced mechanical gremlins. Diaz came back with his Reflex RX28 to win the second and third mains to guarantee the top step of the podium for the class. This was a complete Team Queretaro podium, as Mito López and Pedro Sánchez landed second and third place.

The fastest class of the event was 2WD Mod. Díaz took win on the first race. Pepe Alvidrez with his RTRC RTA v2, did not make things easy for Luis, winning the second round. The third and final race of the night was a thriller. Alvdirez took the lead early fencing off Diaz, but faced receiver issues that ultimately made him retire. Jorge Pastor with his Nexx Spectre took advantage of this, to secure third place for the class. Díaz ran off into the distance to become a triple champion for the 2023 Mexican PNWC Regionals.
