RCShox has created a center differential kit for the new Serpent SRX-4 4x4 buggy, which is intended to improve the car’s performance especially on high bite tracks. The conversion uses the exclusive RCShox “Pin Drive” technology and a billet-machined 86-tooth Delrin spur gear, and comes with a Delrin pulley along with the hardware needed for installation.

The pins in the “Pin Drive” technology are used to adjust the action of the center differential. The pins “drive” into the diff balls under acceleration, which slows down the differential - so more pins means a “tighter” diff. RC Shox says that 8 pins is a recommended starting place for a high-bite track where slicks are used.

The diff action is not linear, either, but it does depend on the force applied. Regardless of the number of pins installed, the diff will transfer more power to the front of the buggy upon initial acceleration but transfer toward the rear as the car accelerates. Under braking, the diff opens up and offers increased braking performance that will prevent the front tires from locking up.
