You may have noticed that a lot of news has been generating lately about a new company on the block, known as P1 Brand. Founded in 2009 in Los Angeles, California, the man behind it all is J. Filipow. Filipow is not only an r/c enthusiast, but a motorsports enthusiast in general.
"My fascination for all motorsports started at an early age. Childhood trips to the Indy 500, where I first witnessed the sights and sounds of motorsport competition, left an unforgettable impression on me," says Filipow.
While his passion is motorsports, he has a long list of experience in the fine arts industry including working with clients such as Nike/Air Jordan, Kobe Bryant/KB24.com, Adidas, Honda, Fender Guitars Custom Shop, Pepsico/Mountain Dew, Hurley, Matix Clothing, Monster Energy Drink, DC Shoes, The Berrics, Royal Elastics, Falcon Motorcycles, Independent Film Channel, G4TV, Obey Clothing, Obey Giant Art, Studio Number One and more. In addition, he recently worked with, and appears in, the product placement-exposing documentary film, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, directed by Academy Award Nominee, Morgan Spurlock.
Needless to say we were excited to see the new line of P1 Brand products, and couldn't wait to get our hands on them!
About the Product - P1 Pit Pad
The P1 Brand crew hooked us up with the all-new P1 Pit Pad! This unique pit mat is designed out of a non-slip, textured, 1/8" foam that can be easily rolled up and transported with the P1 mesh carry bag included. The PitPad provides the ideal pit surface to keep your pit not only looking good, but organized as well. Standard plastic or wooden pit tables allow screws and parts to roll off relatively easily, however, the PitPad's foam design helps stop runaway parts and screws even on uneven pit tables.
The PitPad is available in two different sizes, Standard and Large. The standard size mat is 24"x36" while the large mat is a massive 24"x60". Many tracks that provide pit tables often limit racers to a 36" pit space per driver (example being our local track), and there is no better way to stake out your territory on busy race nights than the standard size PitPad.
The P1 Brand goes above and beyond to add extra style to their products, and for the PitPad they feature their signature "Barrier" graphic cut out along the bottom of the mat.
Product Test - P1 PitPad
Now that we know a little about the PitPad, it was time to put it to the test! First and foremost we went for a size test. Will the PitPad be the right size to handle all of our necessary equipment including car, charger, power supply, tools, tire washer, and our miscellaneous gizmos and gadgets. The Standard size PitPad was more than enough for our short course truck and equipment.
As we have had pit mats that roll up in the past, nothing is more irritating than a mat that won't flatten out after travelling with it rolled up. The P1 Brand PitPad is easily rolled up and un-rolled to provide your pit spot. The 1/8" thick foam material unrolls quick and easy and lays down flat in little to no time at all.
One of our major complaints of any plastic or wooden pit tables is that if they are not PERFECTLY even, screws and parts easily roll off and are lost in the pit floor abyss. We opened up our screw bag and dumped them smack in the middle of the PitPad on one of the uneven tables no one wants to sit at. Not a single screw made it any further than two inches from where they were dropped. Did we measure how far the screws ran away? Yes. Was this a little over the top for a PitPad test? Maybe. Did it make others jealous of our new P1 Pit Pad? Absolutely.
While we knew that we were in love with the new PitPad, it has been brought to our attention that we weren't the only ones. Spotted at the Tamiya Track in California, world champ Atsushi Hara is seen here also enjoying the new P1 PitPad.
Test Results
After spending a day at the track with the new P1 PitPad we established that is was a great size, grippy material that doesn't slide around, unrolls and rolls up easily, easily transported using the mesh carrying bag included, and it looks AWESOME. Now for the down sides of the P1 PitPad...
Although the PitPad is one mean looking pit space mat, it does not hurt enough when beating those who try and steal our super trick new line of P1 t-shirts we had on display in the pits :)

We have given the P1 PitPad a 5 beacon rating! On a side note: While on the way to the track we were stunned and not sure how to react as we received a wave and wink from a lovely lady passing by....since this has never happened before, we attribute it to the sexy look of our new P1 Brand t-shirt we were wearing.
