Former RC magazine contributor Jeremy Losaw was in touch this week to share the latest project from Vectorworks, an accessory manufacturer created along with Brian Watson. Both Losaw and Watson worked as engineers for NASCAR teams, so they know a thing or two about making race cars. The project, called "Hornet," brings full-size racing technology to RC for the first time.

Vectorworks team driver and 2003 event champion Dana Bailes ran the Hornet in a high-level racing test for the first time at the U.S. Indoor Championships in Cleveland this past weekend, where unrelated problems relegated Bailes to a B-Main finish in the hotly contested 13.5 division.

Press release from Vectorworks:

Vectorworks is proud to announce the release of their first 1/12 scale car, the Hornet. The Hornet is a conversion kit for the RC12R5 series cars that turns it into the only 1/12 scale car with a full underbody aero package. The chassis features an in-line battery configuration to narrow the chassis to make room for the underbody side pods. It also has an extended length diffuser to pump air out from under the chassis for increased downforce and grip.

The kit includes an all new carbon chassis, green anodized aluminum pod pieces, the polycarbonate sidepods and diffuser, and the rest of the carbon components for the conversion. If 1/12 scale racing is not your forte, you can still support the team on Kickstarter by backing them with the purchase of a factory team T or sticker.

The prototype is being tested at tracks in the midwest with VRC Pro driver Dana Bailes, and the car will be available to ship in January.
