Team Associated Sweeps Tumbleweed Classic
The Tumbleweed Classic, hosted by ARCOR Raceway in Albuquerque, NM is one of the longest-running outdoor races in the nation. Known as "the original" sugared track, traction is always high and with a flowing, jump-filled layout, racing was sure to be fun for all. Team Associated and Reedy was there with rising star Spencer Rivkin and Team Manager Brent Thielke joining locals Scott Spear, Chris Boice and others. Also making the trip over from Arizona were Richard Lake and Kamryn Ayres.
With Friday practice, qualifying on Saturday, and main events on Sunday, the event boasted a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of track time. After qualifying, it was the B5M of Spencer Rivkin on pole in 2WD Modified along with his B44.3 on pole in 4WD Modified. Thielke qualified first with his T5M in Truck Modified.
As the main events went off, Rivkin was never challenged in 4WD Modified during the single 7-minute main event.
Thielke won A1 and A2 going away in Truck Modified.
However, in 2WD Modified, Thielke won A1 and Rivkin A2, setting up a showdown for the title in A3. As the wind picked up and conditions deteriorated, the two drivers checked out from the field. Rivkin pulled a few-seconds lead that he would never relinquish to take home his second title of the weekend.
Thanks to the volunteer staff from ARCOR, along with the local Team Associated racers for the great hospitality, and congratulations to all the winners.
