WORLDS: Coelho clinched TQ with fastest run in Q4 [RESULTS AND POINTS]

When Naoto Matsukura’s spur gear failed on the straightaway of the final lap of the ‘A’ heat in round four, Bruno Coelho was confirmed as the Top Qualifier at the IFMAR Electric Off-Road World Championships for the 4WD portion. Even after securing the front spot of the grid, Coelho was upset with IFMAR president Dallas Mathiesen for calling him pull over for the faster Matsukura after the Japanese driver had made a mistake, but then approached him again in the middle of the race. Michal Orlowski scored another third place finish with the fastest 17-lap run of the round, nearly a second ahead of Jared Tebo after the American’s best run of the day. British Yokomo driver Tom Cockerill solidified his first IFMAR Worlds finals appearance with his third top-five run in four tries.

With TQ sewn up by Coelho, the battle now turns to the second spot on the grid: Orlowski currently holds the position, though Naoto Matsukura could jump ahead with a top-6 run in the final round tomorrow morning. David Ronnefalk (fourth) and Tom Cockerill (fifth) are locked into the final mathematically, though their starting positions have not been decided. Behind that, however, the final five positions in the main event are up for grabs.
