Each autumn for the last few years, long-time factory off-road racer Phillip Atondo has teamed up with Central Valley Raceway in Madera, CA to host the Octoberfest. The race regularly draws some of the fastest racers in Central and Northern California, with a beautifully sculpted outdoor track and often some sort of pumpkin-exploding antics.
This past weekend, Jacob Haas (who TQ’d and won the E-Buggy division) earned top qualifying honors in the premier nitro 1/8-scale buggy class, but made a couple of mistakes at the beginning of the race and flamed out after a pit stop, eventually fighting his way back to fifth. In his place, XRAY’s Tyler Vik motored away from second on the grid for an easy victory, crossing the finish line over a lap and a half ahead of a great battle for the final podium spots. Jonathan Hernandez edged Curtis Door by 1.492 seconds for second, and Door settled for third.
