Lutz and Bornhorst split wins at Sparks Park RC Raceway Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots event at Sparks RC Park

This past weekend I headed down a couple of hours south to Sparks RC Park for some indoor electric racing. I ran 4wd SC and E-buggy. A fresh layout was put down for the event along with some ‘white snow’ infield paint to set the proper ambiance for the season. About 142 entries showed up to compete and support the great cause. In all the event was able to donate a truck bed full of toys for Toys for Tots!

On to the racing where Joe and I were putting on a show in both classes. We were battling it out each qualifying round, swapping TQ overall. After 3 rounds of qualifying I was able to TQ E-buggy and Joe got the 4x4SC class.

During the 7 minute 4x4SC Main, with a couple of set-up changes for the main my truck was much better in certain sections and I pressured Joe hard for the first 3 minutes. I don’t think i’ve been able to drive so close to someone without tagging them before and it was like that lap after lap. Great fun to drive and to watch. In the middle I made a mistake though and fell back. I put my head down and pushed hard and whittled down the gap to just a couple seconds before stuffing the pipe one last time on the last lap ending my charge. So I took 2nd.

In E-buggy, my buggy was great at the start and I worked a little lead. But I then made a mistake and fell back again. Once again it was catch up time and I was able to be the first to dip into the 17 second laps with a 17.8 on my way to reeling in Joe. With just a minute or so left he would get tangled with lapped traffic which allowed me to get by the easy way and cruise home to the victory.
