The NORRFEC - the Nordic RC Car Federation Commitee - held its annual 1/8-scale off-road championships last weekend, drawing the fastest drivers from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark to Botkyrka Raceway in Botkyrka, Sweden.
After dominating the first three rounds of qualifying, 2014 champion David Ronnefalk sped off from the front of the grid and looked to have the race wrapped up. Behind him, Joseph Quagraine and Christoffer Svensson battled for second - and Quagraine had the upper hand in fuel mileage, allowing him to pull away in the later stages of the race.
With roughly 15 minutes to go, Ronnefalk’s car stopped - a flywheel pin came loose, hitting the clutch bell and causing the engine to stall. The DNF promoted Quagraine to the lead and eventual win, with Svensson second and Marcus Sandberg third. The championship was Quagraine's tenth Nordic title, including three in electric off-road, and broke a tie with Magnus Amilon for most nitro wins ever as he earned his seventh.
After the win, Quagraine posted the following to Facebook:
“Finally some sunshine on this traveling circus! Nordic Champion for the 10th time! That felt good...🍻✌🔥 No better way to kickstart Euros and Worlds prep!”
