Cavalieri, Evans and Jenson won Surf City Classic

The 2016 Surf City Classic was again hosted by OC RC Raceway in beautiful Huntington Beach, California. The success of this race over the years has been very impressive and this year would be no different. Rumors that the race would sell out quickly was heard weeks before the race. When sign-ups did open, they only lasted 26-minutes until all 350 race entries were sold out!

Team Orion would go into this years Surf City Classic will a star studded line up consisting of: Ryan Cavalieri, Dakotah Phend, Jared Tebo, Dustin Evans, and David Jenson.

Race Schedule:

Friday, August 26th: Open Practice

Saturday, August 27th: 3 Rounds of Qualifying

Sunday, August 28th : 1 Round of Qualifying & Single 10-minute A-Main Events

2wd Modified Buggy

In the 2wd Modified Buggy class, it was Team Orion's Dakotah Phend taking the overall TQ honors!

A rough first lap by Phend would hand over the race lead to 2nd qualifier Ryan Cavalieri. Cavalieri and his Team Associated teammate Spencer Rivkin would have a great battle all race long. As time ran out and the checkered flag waiving, it was Team Orion's Ryan Cavalieri crossing the finish line 1st to take the Win! Reedy's Spencer Rivkin would finish 2nd & Reedy's Ashe Deering 3rd.

In the 4wd Modified Buggy class, it was Team Orion's Ryan Cavalieri that would TQ 2 of the 4 rounds of qualifying to take the overall TQ!

Team Orion's Ryan Cavalieri & Jared Tebo would have an epic battle throughout the 10-minute A-Main. With only a few laps left, Cavalieri made a pass back on Tebo for the lead and would go onto take his 2nd Win of the weekend! Team Orion's Jared Tebo would finish 2nd & Reedy's Spencer Rivkin 3rd.

Evans would get a great jump off the line and comfortably build a gap on the field. With allot of crashing going on behind Evans, he would go onto cruise home for the Win uncontested! LRP's Steven Hartson would finish 2nd & LRP's Blake Beyett 3rd.

In the 2wd Modified Short Course class, Team Orion's Ryan Cavalieri would TQ 3 out of 4 rounds of qualifying to take the overall TQ!

Cavalieri would then have another good battle with his Team Associated teammate Rivkin during the early stages of the race. Cavalieri would eventually pull away and cruise home for his 3rd Win of the weekend! Reedy's Spencer Rivkin would finish 2nd & Team Powers Kyle Layton 3rd.

In the 1/8 Electric Buggy class, it was Team Orion's Jake Thayer taking the TQ honors!

Team Orion's Jake Thayer & David Jenson would be on another level during the A-Main Event. Both drivers raced hard and clean with each other all throughout the A-Main. As the race came to a close, it was young David Jenson taking the Win! Team Orion's Jake Thayer would finish 2nd & Tekin's Ryan Dunford in 3rd.
