The Classic at the Creek is in the books, and what a show it was! The track was fast despite the weather of the last week, and the track crew worked like crazy to make sure it was in racing condition. We had drivers from Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma, all vying for their part of the near $4000 total purse. So, without further delay, here is your 2017 Classic at the Creek race recap:

065 NASTRUCK-

The 065 Nastrucks were one of the most exciting classes of the night, with a great field of trucks making the call, including 2-time 065 Champion Darin Pendleton. He led the field to the green, followed by Eric Neilson and Darin Busch, and led the first handful of laps before Busch took over the top spot, where he would lose it and take it back over. He would stay there and take it to the checkered, grabbing the 1st place plaque and the 065 Feature winner sticker, followed by Competition RC hot-shoe Mark Norwood in 2nd, and Eric Neilson in 3rd, hailing from Lawton RC.

10.5 MIDWEST MODIFIED-

In Midwest Modified, it was a battle of the GFRP cars, with Jerry Glenn and Brindon Hejny battling for the top spot, while Doug Gaut clawed his way back up onto the podium after getting collected in a wreck early on. Another story in the MWM class was Evolution Racing Concepts driver Shane Wheeler bumping from the C-Feature to the B, then from the B to the A-feature, where he would have to pull off early. Hejny would take the win, followed by Glenn and Gaut.

Outlaw Sprint Car:

For the first of the big money classes, Sprint Car was complete with fast times, slide jobs, and big wrecks. Again, a Wheeler ran the alphabet soup, with Daytona Wheeler bumping his way from the C to the A, where he would race his way into the 5th place spot in his ERC/KMC sponsored ride. In the A-feature, however, it was all Doug Gaut and his GFRP ride that controlled the A from start to finish, with Jeremy Posey taking the second step on the podium, followed by Jerry Glenn in the third spot.

SC MODIFIED-

In SC Modified, it was all Trent Jenkins in the heat races, where he would set TQ and a track record with a 42 lap race that would put him on pole of the A-feature. On the start, however, the night would end for Jenkins as his servo would malfunction heading into turn 1, causing him to drop out immediately without completing a lap. Doug Gaut would take over the top spot, with Brindon Hejny hot on his heels. Randy Palmer would fight his way into the 3rd spot, while the rest of the field duked it out for the 4-8th positions. Gaut would navigate his way through the field on his way to a second $400 payday, followed by Hejny and Palmer.

We at Spring Creek want to thank everyone for coming out and for making this race what it was. The racing was close and exciting, and it was a good time to be had by all. Special thanks to Cara Miller for the pictures! We can't wait to see you next time!
