Race Report by CML Distribution:

Craig Harris took the win in the final round of the BRCA Micro National Championship at Hinckley to seal the championship title victory with his Carisma GTB.

With the championship still up for grabs it was all to play for, with the points situation rather complicated as reigning champ Phil Sleigh, former champ Craig Harris and pretender to the crown Andy Jones were all in with a chance. With other results possibly affecting the outcome there was no place for strategy, it was all go to get the best result possible.

It was the first visit to Hinckley for the UK Micro national series, and they put on a great fast and flowing track for the racers to enjoy.

With the four rounds of qualifying over it was Craig who took the vital extra point for the pole position slot. Andy was still in with a shout in second on the grid, ahead of Keith Robertson, Tony Bishop and Rob West. Phil didn’t have a good qualifying and was down in seventh, not out of it yet but it would take some luck in the final for him to be a factor.

The final saw the top two break away slightly and it became winner takes all for the meeting and the championship as Phil struggled to make headway. With the drivers right on the ragged edge, a tiny mistake from Craig resulted in a roll, letting Andy through into the lead. Craig then applied all the pressure he could until Andy made exactly the same mistake at the same spot Craig had, giving him the lead back again. They were nose to tail right to the line with Craig taking the win by less then a second from Andy, Keith completed the podium in third a couple of seconds further back.

This meant Craig took home the 2014 BRCA Micro championship with his Carisma GTB car. Andy Jones has made a habit of coming second this year and took a fine second in the championship too, just ahead of outgoing champ Phil Sleigh – also driving a Carisma GTB. Congratulations to all three drivers.

In the 2wd event it was Craig who again took home the honours, ahead of Phil with Tony Bishop in third. All drivers were using Carisma buggies converted to 2wd.

A big thanks to all those involved in the BRCA Micro series, entries have been the highest yet with the entry limit actually having to be increased to cope with the drivers now wanting to race. Here’s to more of the same next year.
