Race Report by the MWNS - Ryan Klemme:

Okay now that I have had 1 and a half days to rest 8 pots of coffee and 3 Energy drinks lets get this Mid West Nitro Series Rd 1 Race report started! As always we at MWNS want to thank all of the sponsors, racers, and tracks for all that they do without them this series would not be what it is today.

Round 1 went off with a bang even though it was held on the rain date Saturday May 24th, yep Memorial weekend, due to non stop rain the week prior and several other big races going on we still had 154 entries at RJD Hobbies in Lincoln IL, the layout was a blast. Fast free flowing yet technical enough to challenge even the best drivers on the property with several race lines to choose from.

4x4 Open Short Course was a great race to watch as TQ Alan Richards and 3 place qualifier Michael Meister would battle it out nearly the entire race Richards would take it TQ and hold the number 1 spot until a bobble mid way into the race letting Meister take the lead next lap Meister would give it back to Richards then again next lap Richards gave it back this time Meister holding onto it until the final tone beating Alan Richards by a close race of a few seconds with while second place qualifier Blazin Barry Newkirk would have to settle for third place.

1st-Michael Meister, 2nd-Alan Richards, 3rd-Barry Newkirk, 4th-Greg McCarty,5th-Dustin Ruff

2wd Mod Short Course would have Cole Tollard starting on the pole with Brian Mellow and Jeff Jeff Kachlik stating in the 2nd and 3rd spots after 2 laps in it would be Tollard Mellow and Perillo running 1,2,3. Then Mason Perillo would drop out of the race allowing Blazing Barry Newkirk to move into the 3rd position then on the last lap Mellow made a mistake allowing Newkirk to get pass him to secure the 2nd place position with Mellow finishing in 3rd.

1st-Cole Tollard, 2nd-Barry Newkirk, 3rd-Brian Mellow, 4th-Jeff Kachlik, 5th-Matt Dickinson

1/8 Ebuggy had 3rd place qualifer Alan Richards jump out to an early lead in the first few laps but then TQ Michael Paige was able to regroup and take the lead away 6 laps in putting Richards to 2nd and Collin Weatherholt to 3rd. Then on lap 13 Paige would drop out letting Weatherholt and Richards battle for the lead swapping it out every other lap until lap 19 when the tone sounded it would be Richards turn for the lead separating them by just over 2 seconds for the win.

1st-Alan Richards, 2nd- Collin Weatherholt, 3rd- Joe Sorwell, 4th-Michael Meister, 5th- Brian Delong

1/8 Nitro Sportsman Truggy would not be as close of racing as nearly everyone ended the main on their own laps it would have George Nikolaou lead from the beginning and never looking back to take the win over Dave Smrekar by a lap over John Nay. Although midway in the race it looked like Lance Andraschko was going to end up grabbing the 3rd place spot on the podium but 3 of the last 5 lap jitters kept him off the podium when Nay was able to get around him.

1st-George Nikolaou, 2nd-Dave Smrekar, 3rd- John Nay, 4th- Lance Andraschko, 5th-Travis Frea

1/8 Nitro Sportsman Buggy would have Keith Gerken taking the lead early on until about 7 mins in and young up and coming race Jackson Jeffery would start putting heat on Gerken and they would swap out the lead for the next 6 or so laps then Gerken would have a few bad laps in a row putting some space between Jeffery and Gerken letting Jackson breath a little and put in some consistent laps to grab the win.

1st- Jackson Jeffery, 2nd-Keith Gerken, 3rd- Jeremy Sonnier, 4th Jason Nay, 5th-Jake Martens

1/8 Nitro Pro Truggy had the one and only Michael Paige take the win with his wicked fast driving and consistency would put him 2 laps ahead of Zac Rose after the 25 min final Zac had some rough laps with traffic which hurt him the most his lap times were right on with Paige just wasn’t able to string them together as well. Dwayne Walter was in the 3rd spot on the podium until mechanical issues had him drop out a little over mid race allowing Brian Delong to snatch the final spot.

1st- Michael Paige, 2nd- Zac Rose, 3rd- Brian Delong, 4th- Dustin Ruff, 5th- Britten Curry

1/8 Nitro Pro Buggy would be a repeat for Michael Paige with a sweep in nitro Buggy and Truggy. Collin Weatherholt had the TQ but had a bad first lap dropping him back to 6th bust he as able to get focused and lay down some fast consistent laps and get back to 2nd place but when the leader is doing the same thing its hard to make up lost ground. Cole Tollard was running a clean consistent race and held onto the 3rd place spot until the end with Zac Rose finishing only a handful of seconds back for 4th place.

1st-Michael Paige, 2nd- Collin Weatherholt, 3rd- Cole Tollard, 4th- Zac Rose, 5th- Wade Aronson

As I said before thanks to all of the sponsors of the MWNS: Boca Bearings, RW Mods, VP-PRO USA, Panther, Max Amps, Picco, Competition Racing Products, BuKu Performance, LiveRC, Alpha, 92zero Designs, Viper, PT Oils, RC Scoring Pro, Advantage Racing Products, and RcRenew!

We also would like to thank all the Pro drivers that donated time in our "Pro Pit" tent. Many racers took this opportunity to get some advice from local top level drivers. The Pro drivers each spent some time in the tent so any racer could get some one on one advice. Several people needed help with setup advice, shocks and diff oil choice and Brian Chmielowicz even took one racers buggy to his tent to help the extra mile! Thank you again guys for your time!
