Race report from Serpent:

Chan Kim Hoi runs Serpent Cobra
Here is my race  report on my very  1st race outing with the Serpent Cobra 2.1.

We arrived at the track on Saturday morning and began testing with my base setup . Car was doing well but I was still unsatisfied with the suspension setup. So I decided to change the shock oil and piston and the car handling improved.
Sunday -  Heat 1 – During warm up, I realised the engine wasn’t at its best. I quickly changed the engine but couldnt make it in time for the start. Therefore I used the run as warm up in preparation for heat 2.
Heat 2 -  Again bad luck struck . I was driving good but unfortunately, my Personal Transponder stopped working.  With this, there was only 1 heat left for me to qualify.
Heat 3 – I reviewed the race results  from the first 2 heats and  I could see that 16 laps  is the benchmark and it is  achieveable.
Heat 3 started . I was leading all the way with good consistent fast laps, however  my 16 laps target was ruin due to 2 mistakes and the marshall waited too long to retrieve my car .
I only managed 15 laps and qualified  5th position overall.
With this, my starting grid for the Semi Finals A is car no. 3.
In the semis,I managed a clean start and was in 2nd position, battling with the leading car driven by Ben Panic till he made a mistake and had a  flame out. I took over the lead, maintained all the way and won the Semi final A.
It was a very nice result as I completed with 36 laps while the winner in Semi final B managed 35laps. That result puts me as the No.1  car  in the Grand final.
The Grand Final – Had a good start and lead for a few laps till a couple of mistakes, gave Ben the lead. While running second, encountered an engine flame out and my  position dropped to 10th. After recovering, i had to push very  hard from the back of the field and regained  2nd place again .
This time Ben had a problem with his car and I took over the lead  for a few laps when disaster struck again. My engine flamed out due to reduction in idling as the weather changed. Dropped to 10th again. My pitcrew readjusted the idling and this time I needed to push even harder to get back into contention.
The car was great. The more I pushed, the more the car gave me what I wanted. The car had On power steering , cornering speed, efficient n consistent  braking , everything was  there.
After 20mins, I managed to get back into the top 5 after losing  2 laps due to the flame out . Car in 4th was just 3 secs ahead, while the 3rd and 2nd position cars were 9 sec ahead, with constant updates from  my efficient pitman, Mr.Rickey.

But unfortunately I had a technical issue . I believe I could have achieved a good result for the Team if I had finished the race. Sometimes in racing, I guess, luck plays a part as well.
This is only my first race outing with the Serpent Cobra 2.1 and my impression is , this car is very tough, quite easy to drive, just need to fine tune the base setup and  ratio depending on track layout . I am very happy with the reliability of  this car and  will  try again in upcoming races to get the best result for Team  Serpent.
Many thanks to Silver Castle n HMS Racing of Malaysia for giving me the opportunity to work with Serpent.
Best Regards.
