Race report from Team Associated:

Now celebrating its 10th year, the International Indoor Championships (IIC) remains one of the most prestigious events in RC racing. Over 400 entries, including top racers around the world, attended the 2014 edition at the Riviera Hotel and Casino on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. Competition was intense in all classes but the relaxed nature of the event and the sights and sounds of Vegas meant that most experienced a good time regardless of their race results.

After a strong fifth place finish at the 1/12 World Championships a week prior, Keven Hébert was looking to maintain his hot streak in Vegas. Keven sought a third win in a row in the Super Stock 13.5 TC class – a class that he not only drives well, but one in which he can take full advantage of his TC6.2’s excellent spec class handling and the power of his Reedy Sonic 540 Mach 2/7000mAh LiPo battery combination. Betting against Keven in this class means betting on a long shot.

Rocket round qualifying meant that the fastest single qualifying round would determine a driver’s main event starting position. Keven started things off with the fastest time in round 1 to set the early TQ. He bettered his time in round 2 and again in round 3 to maintain the number one position. In round 4, Keven was unable to improve his time but he still set the fastest time of the round and would start the main event from the pole position.

A clean start in the A Main allowed Keven to build a small gap early on. A battle for second allowed Keven to increase his lead and take the wire-to-wire victory – his third in a row and fourth in six years!

To cap off a great weekend, Keven finished second in the 1/12 Modified class with teammate Mike Haynes rounding out the podium positions.

Congratulations to the winners in all the classes and thanks to Scotty Ernst for conceiving and organizing this great event.
