Race report from Team Associated:

For the past 20 years, the Arizona State Off-Road Championships have been hosted at SRS in the heart of Scottsdale, AZ. This year, however with the move of Hobbytown/SRS to their new facility in Phoenix, “The States” have moved indoors for the first time ever. Over the years the competitors and victors at this event have gone on to shine on a National and World stage. With a new crop of racers shining through Arizona and with a new facility, Hobbytown SRS was ready to crown their 2015 Arizona State Champions.

In the prestigious 2wd Modified class it was the Team Associated/Reedy teammates of Spencer Rivkin, Tommy Hinz and Tanner Denney who shined the brightest. Qualifying 1st, 2nd and 3rd with their Reedy powered B5M buggies, the trio proved to be the ones to beat. With Rivkin getting the win in A1, the stage was set for an A2 showdown between the two Arizona natives. After an early mistake by Rivkin, Denney jumped out to the lead as Rivkin fought his way back through the field. With a few minutes to go, Denney caught the pipe coming on to the straight, giving the lead back to Rivkin who with the win in A2, secured his first 2wd Modified Buggy Arizona State Championship.

In the 4wd Modified class, the Reedy powered B44.3 Factory Team of Spencer Rivkin was in a league of his own. Setting a blistering pace in qualifying, Rivkin would line up first and cruise to his second championship of the weekend with wins in A1 and A2.

In the ever competitive 17.5 2wd Buggy class, Team Associated’s Jeff “Humpty” Helms took a popular win with his B5M ahead of teammate and Reedy driver, Scott Spear.

Thanks to Hobbytown/SRS for putting on the Arizona State Championships and keeping the racing tradition alive in the Valley of the Sun!
