After four regional rounds touching each corner of the country, the 2014 JConcepts Indoor National Series concluded this past weekend with the finals at the huge HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex in Omaha, NE. Kyosho, Team Associated, and TLR each had a top-level representative at the race, and each scored TQ honors in one of the top three classes: Ryan Maifield in Pro-2 Modified Short Course, Jared Tebo in 4WD Modified, and Spencer Rivkin in 2WD Modified.

With only a single 8-minute A-Main determining the winner of the Pro-2 class, second qualifier Jared Tebo had just one chance to sneak by for the upset. Never more than just a few seconds apart, Maifield and Tebo ran in qualifying formation for the entire final and Tebo finished just .72 seconds behind. Third qualifier Derek Wood recovered from a slightly slower first lap to get back to the podium position by lap two, and held on for the duration of the race.

TQ Spencer Rivkin struggled once the race got to heads-up starts, finishing 8th in A1 before rebounding with the win in A2 ahead of Tebo and Taylor Larsen. Meanwhile, the driver that Team Associated hopes Rivkin will replace, Ryan Maifield, won A1 ahead of Steven Hartson and Tebo and finished fourth in A2. With the overall win going down to the wire, Tebo quickly worked his way to the lead and sprinted away from the field, winning A3 by five seconds over Maifield to seal the deal. Rivkin finished fourth in the last main to lock up the final podium spot.

Though there wasn’t much passing involved, the race between TQ Jared Tebo and his closest competitors, current World Champ Steven Hartson and Ryan Maifield, came down to the wire by the end of A1. Tebo finished .9 seconds ahead of Hartson, with Maifield another .6 behind. Maifield passed Tebo on the fourth lap of A2 and held on for a 1.1 second victory while Cody Hollis, who worked methodically through the field from 11th on the grid, finished third. Maifield followed Tebo closely at the start of A3 but lost over six seconds in a crash just after the three minute mark, and that was all the gap Tebo needed, clinching the overall for the weekend while Maifield beat Hartson to the line by 3.2 seconds.

The final business for the weekend was tallying the overall points totals accrued during the nationwide series, during which each driver’s three best finishes out of the five races counted. Ryan Maifield wrapped up the overall National Series championships in 2WD, 4WD, and Pro-2 Modified Short Course, nearing a perfect score in each.
