This past weekend I made the drive down to So-Cal for a day of testing and also the Battle of the Sikest event. First off was a few hours of testing at Revelation on Thursday. Our focus was on the NB48 and we had a few set-up changes and test parts to try out. I think we made some headway and learned some more and that will be put to good use on the new car.

On Friday morning we headed out to Beaumont to the Battle of the Sikest event at Thunder Alley. Levi Jackson with Sik Track Designs had worked his magic yet again with another stellar layout for us to enjoy.

The turnout was a bit light which was unfortunate because I feel this is such a great event with some unique features. There were 3 qualifiers 7, 10, and 15 minute length for Nitro (3, 10 minute quals for E-classes). Then all A-mains received triple A’s of varying lengths depending on class. Pro Nitro classes were 20min each while E-classes were 10. So there was a lot of track time offered throughout the weekend and a fun unique format.

I chose to run 3 classes at this event which were my Nitro Buggy and Truggy, as well as E-buggy. All my cars were fairly dialed on the track and turning the fastest lap times in most of the heats and mains. I would TQ all 3 rounds of E-buggy as well as the first round of Nitro buggy and second round of truggy. Overall I would qualify TQ in E-buggy, and 2nd in the two Nitro classes behind Tessmann.

Triple A-mains were on tap for all classes. In E-buggy I would take commanding victory in A1 and A2 and thus take the overall. My EB48 was dialed from the start and I ran SS Grids in A1 and S Grids in A2.

In Nitro Truggy it would be a dogfight the first couple laps in A1 and A2. Tessmann led out but for 2 or 3 laps I felt faster and was pressuring him a lot. However both mains I would make mistakes and fall back a bit and that is all he needs to be gone. I would be able to put in the fast laps but my mistakes would prove costly and I would settle for a 2nd overall behind the World #1.

In Pro Buggy I would be leading in A1 at the first pitstop. My NB48 was running great and I was hoping to hang on. Shortly after the first stop though my car came to a dead halt, race over for me. In A2 I would have some mistakes early and be running in 3rd. I then moved up to 2nd with a couple minutes to go but made a big mistake on the right triple triple falling about 4 seconds behind 2nd. In the closing 2 laps though i made a huge charge and pressured Moller at the finish line but he just held on and I settled for 3rd. In A3 my car was dialed. Soft Gridirons were chosen and as the track dried out throughout the run my car just got better and better. I had fast laps over .7 faster than the field. Problem was I had dug a hole in the opening laps and was mired in 3rd. I found my grove though and moved into 2nd but Tessman was his regular steady fast self and there just wasn’t enough time to catch him. So I settled in 2nd for the run and thus 3rd overall for the triple A-format.

Overall it was a solid event with 3 more podium finishes. I wish the event could have been bigger because Levi has done an awesome job with his events and I think the format is a lot of fun. And of course his tracks are some of my favorites.

Next I have 2 weeks of preparations before a 3 week swing of NY Classic, Nats Warmup, and King of Kings.
