BREAKING: King let go by HB Racing and Team Orion

HB Racing and Team Orion terminated its contract with former world champion Cody King earlier this month due in part to misconduct at the track.

“He had personal problems which came in conflict with the image we want to show, especially to kids, families and HB fans,” said Neidhart, ”We want to have a good behavior at all time and respect some basic rules in order to show that this hobby is good. And unfortunately if somebody is acting in a way which do not match with this we can not keep him.”

King joined the HB Racing and Team Orion squad in February, with the Dirt Nitro Challenge marking his debut with the team at the Dirt Nitro Challenge following a ten-year stint with Kyosho, and the fresh start for both King and HB Racing showed promise for both the driver and the brand in the first few events of 2017. Neidhart described the disappointment that it didn't work out. “It is something which is not new. We gave him a chance to change, but it happened again at a race,” said Neidhart.

King issued a statement on his Facebook page around 10:20 PM CT last night that said, "Hello all. I have had a few questions about my sponsorship arrangement with HB. I would like to announce I have parted ways with HB effective immediately. I have nothing but good things to say about HB and the opportunities they gave me, and I’m sorry it didn’t work out. This is a difficult time for me, and unfortunately I have to step away from RC for awhile for personal reasons. I can’t say for sure what the future holds in RC for me going forward, but I hope you will respect my privacy while I take time to make decisions. Thanks for understanding, and perhaps I will be back out at the track before too long."

LiveRC wishes HB Racing the best of luck for the remainder of the 2017 season, and hopes Cody returns to the track - and the front of the pack — soon.
