Most racers and bashers alike would agree that the evolution of batteries in the R/C world has been a tremendous improvement over the past 10 years. With the introduction of LiPo batteries R/C enthusiasts have been given longer run times, more power, and instant fun without having to build your own battery packs. Unfortunately, LiPos can also be the cause of major destruction due to charging fires.
Venom has released their all-new Stronghold SOLO LiPo Containment System which replaces standard LiPo bags for safe charging in case of a fire. The new containment box is said to contain the results of charging malfunctions and mishaps, in turn saving you a lot of frustration, property damage, and/or loss.
We decided to try out the Venom Stronghold SOLO to see if it REALLY live up to what they say it can, and here is our results:
As you can see in the video, the Venom Stronghold box did exactly what it was designed to do! The aluminum box design had no issues handling the intense heat, mini "explosions" and pressure. As you saw, the only thing that truly escaped from the box was smoke. While this smoke would still leave quite a mess and odor to clean up in a house or indoor area, we personally would much rather deal with a little smoke clean-up and air freshener than rebuilding a burnt down home. The little feet on the bottom of the box hold it up off of the surface it is sitting on, which keeps that surface from catching fire and/or burning as well. The plastic table we used had nothing more than smoke stains, that we wiped off easily afterwards.
Overall the Venom Stronghold Solo is something that we HIGHLY recommend to anyone using LiPo batteries. While this box may seem bulky and "overkill" to some viewers, the safety and peace of mind that it provides is priceless and well worth it to us.
