As you may have seen this past Friday we featured Denver Houghton from the 2013 ROAR 1:8 Nitro Offroad Nationals for our "Flashback Friday" column. Denver was awarded $400 for eating one of the biggest beetles I have ever seen. The response from Denver's beetle munching good time came with mixed reviews. Most viewers agreed the thought of eating a beetle that size (or any bug at all) is too gross to actual pull it off, regardless of the money.

Had it been 2010, I probably would have agreed that there is no way I would eat a bug or beetle of any sort. Fast forward to 2011 after a rough day of racing, an enormous parts bill, and several losing games of poker with my buddies...I couldn't eat a bug for money fast enough.

The Real R/C Raceway crew is always up for a good time, and after I begged for one last chance to win my money back in cards, the gang decided that game night was over, BUT if I would munch down on a live beetle found outside the hobby shop they would give me $109. The beetle was 1/4 the size of Denver's beetle, and worth 1/4 of the prize, but with $0 in my pocket it seemed like a million dollar idea.

I successfully ate the bug, collected the cash, paid for my parts, and even had a dollar left to get something off the McDonalds value menu on the way home. Was it worth it? You bet it was. As R/C racers we may not always be the smartest or well-mannered individuals, BUT we always seem to get the job done...and we certainly have a good time doing it.

What are some of the craziest  money making things you've done with your R/C buddies?
Would you eat a bug to pay for parts?
