Team Associated has spent the 2014 season working on a replacement for the RC8.2 buggy, with two different engineers building two wildly different prototypes and having their team drivers run them at various events in the U.S. and Europe. We covered Ryan Cavalieri's first race with the newest version, as he was clearly the fastest car at a SoCal series race before an engine failure knocked him out on the last lap of the final. Team Associated has kept the car tightly guarded and asked for no pit photos, but now we've got the first photo with the body off!

Chances are that you probably didn't find this as funny as Brandon and I did.
In all seriousness, we haven't pushed the issue out of respect for Team Associated's request. They've shown us the car, and there's a few little things that we haven't been able to see in action photos that look really interesting. There's still a lot of time yet before qualifying begins next week, but all three drivers running the new buggy this week have looked solid so far in practice. After yesterday's two rounds, with the drivers sorted by seeding times (the fastest three consecutive laps), Neil Cragg was 18th, Yannick Aigoin was 20th, and Ryan Cavalieri was 24th. We'll stay on top of the team's progress as the race continues.
