Ty Tessmann was in a league of his own in 2014, winning both classes at The Dirt Nitro Challenge before earning another ROAR National Championship in 1/8-scale buggy (and successfully defending his 1/10-scale 4WD title), then setting off to Italy and winning his first IFMAR Worlds. Accompanied by his parents in the pits, all sharing a “110%” attitude, there’s perhaps no driver better prepared to handle the expectations of walking into nitro off-road racing’s largest event as the odds-on favorite to win it all. Ty and his father, Gord, have been largely responsible for helping to refine the HB-HPI Racing kits into Worlds winners, and in addition to the trusty D8T Tessmann Edition they’ve also brought with them a pre-production version of a new buggy to commemorate his 2014 IFMAR title.

Notes: This HB buggy is loaded with updates to transform the D812 into the new D815 Worlds Edition, which we understand will be officially announced by HB-HPI Racing tomorrow. It’s built on a new chassis, which suits the narrower split center diff mount and has wider engine mounting slots to offer a greater range of gearing options. The front and rear diff cases have been changed to accept D413-style captured pinion gears, which are spun with center dog bones rather than CV-style driveshafts. The brakes are new, using steel discs and fiberglass pads - a first for HB - and the linkage has been modified. The radio tray is now much smaller, and designed more appropriately to fit a LiPo receiver pack. The shock cap now has a bleeder screw, and the bladder has been redesigned to suit. The rear hubs are fitted with plates to adjust the height of the camber link, and the rear driveshafts are longer as well for increased grip. Instead of the D812’s 15-degree caster blocks, the D815 WE comes with 17.5 degree blocks to alter the car’s steering response. The servo saver is now fitted with an aluminum lower arm and clamping adjustment nut. The updated sway bars swing more freely thanks to the ends being shaped to poke perpendicular to the A-arm. The rear wing mount is redesigned to be lighter, and Ty is also running Pro-Line’s Lexan Trifecta 1/8-scale wing. Power comes from the new Ty Tessmann World Championship Edition O.S. Speed B2101.
