Main Photo: Travis Amezcua - TQ + TD = now! Travis Amezcua has left TQ and is now running Team Durango electric vehicles. Of course, this move only applies to electric vehicles. His relationship with nitro manufacturer Mugen-Seiki is still very much intact.

Amezcua will debut his rides this weekend at the Cactus Classic in Scottsdale, AZ.

"I got the two-wheel on Wednesday morning," said Amezcua when asked about the move, "every time I run them I'm learning what changes do to everything, so they're coming around."

While it is not unheard of for a driver to switch teams during this part of the year, most driver's contracts run from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, so we were a little surprised to see Travis running a different car at this point in the season. At first glance, one could assume that, perhaps, there may have been a falling out between the two parties or some sort of mutual separation for a move like this to happen in March. However, Travis stated to us that his decision to make the move to Team Durango was purely related to team size.

"I had a great time with TQ running their 2WD, 4WD and short course, said Amezcua,  "I ran that all last year and this year at the Reedy Race this year. I wanted to do more races, like the go to the (electric) worlds, nationals, shoot-out; I feel like it was hard working by myself trying to find set-ups and all that kind of stuff, so having Billy Fischer on this team and other guys to work with makes it a lot bigger and better for me."

As you may have noticed, Team Durango's nitro team has been growing at an alarming rate this winter. This signing shows that they are just as serious about bolstering their electric team as well. It will be an interesting year for Team Durango, and an interesting year for us to sit back and watch how the company evolves after completely overhauling their brand, products and race team within the span of a year.

As for Amezcua, you can follow how he progresses with his new rides at the Cactus Classic right here on LiveRC.com.
