DIY Anodizing Titanium for Hobbyist

Anodizing your model RC Titanium parts at home is quick and easy with the right materials.  Required items are listed below and all Hobbyist below the age of 18 should have adult supervision.  

The Borax or Baking soda is used as an electrolyte when introduced to water.  Negative lead goes from the mixture to negative power source.  Positive lead from positive energy source and attaches to titanium creating an anode.  Attach work piece to anode and dip into solution for anodization / oxidation to occur.  Various voltage creates various color spectrums. 

Items Required:

  • Safety Glasses
  • Vinyl Gloves
  • Titanium
  • Borax or Baking Soda
  • Distilled Water
  • 9v Batteries 
  • Alligator clips 
  • Wire leads
  • Plastic container
  • Cotton swab
