Race report from Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series:

The PROTOform Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series Round 1 brought racing excitement to the capital city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Hosted by SarCar it was a great season opening race weekend! With 2 major changes this season, there was lots of anticipation for the opener. On track, the new CRC Black Carpet was the star attraction, presenting the first opportunity for most racers in Western Canada to try this new carpet. The second major change was the AAA Main finals format. With high grip, but AAA consistency the major focus, it was set to be a great weekend! WCICS also welcomes our returning sponsors as well as our new sponsors: Motive as the new Platinum WCICS Live sponsor, RC America/XRay as TC Mod sponsor, Gripworks as F1 sponsor, Gravity RC as WGT sponsor, Blinds Plus as Mini sponsor! And thanks to Original Joe's in Saskatoon for the trophy girls!

RC America/XRay TC Mod: TQ Team Awesomatix's Wayne Mah would take the R1 win, Team XRay's Danny Buck 2nd, Privateer WCICS President Josh Carter 3rd. Then a break in R2 for Wayne would see Danny capitalizing with a R2 win, Josh 2nd. An epic battle in R3 which saw them cross the line just a few seconds apart, Danny posting the faster lap, but Wayne taking the win and 1st overall, and Josh 3rd.

Team Great Hobbies TC Stock: TQ'ing the biggest class of the weekend, Team Awesomatix's Wayne Mah would win the first 2 mains, and sit back to watch the rest of the action. Fighting for the rest was Way Mah and Ryan Berry. R1: Way, then Ryan. R2: Ryan, then Way. R3 tie-breaker: Way, then Josh Carter, then Ryan, for a final order of Wayne, Way & Ryan. Congrats to Ryan for his first ever WCICS Podium, we know it won't be his last!

Gravity RC WGT: In what ended up being just a fun race, TQ Privateer Josh Carter would win the first 2 mains and then watch the action in the third. Phil Ursulescu would take both 2nd's and Dale Ruptash would take 3rd.

Blinds Plus Tamiya Mini: Ivan Chan took the R1 win, followed by Daryl Siba and Tyson Schlechter. R2 would see Daryl come back, Ivan 2nd, and Chris Jackman jump up to 3rd. In the exciting final round, Ivan would come back to take 1st overall, with Daryl and Chris taking 2nd and 3rd in the round, and in the final results.

ATD Hobbies Scale Spec: Cam Spence took the first win, followed within 2 seconds by both Dennis Beck in 2nd, and Lance Radke in 3rd. The next round would be exactly the same, so Cam would be a spectator for R3, where Lance and Dennis would again finish within a couple seconds, for a final podium order of Cam, Dennis, and Lance. For 3 rounds that saw the top 3 finish within several seconds of each other, it was amazingly consistent!

CRC 12th Stock: In the second biggest class, it was Jason Lochthwe that would take the wins in R1 and R2. So the battle for second was on. R1: XRay's Ryan Rice, then Ivan Chan. R2: Warren Sippel, then Ivan, R3: Ivan then Warren. Final: Jason, Warren, Ivan.

Reedy 12th Mod: When you're fast, you're fast, and 12 Mod is always the fastest! This was definitely the most dynamic class all weekend, with 3 different winners! Josh Carter would take the R1 win, and then have mechanical DNF's for the next 2 rounds. TQ Jason Lochthwe and Ivan would take the rest of R1. Jason, Ivan and Dean Temple would take R2. Ivan, Taylor Mogard and Jason would take R3. In the end, it was Jason, Ivan and Taylor.

Gripworks F1: In another just for fun race, Jason Lochthwe would take TQ and overall win by a full lap over Ivan Chan.

Thank you SarCar for once again hosting the opening round of the PROTOform WCICS 26th Year in Saskatoon! We look forward to Round 2 at PRCC in beautiful Penticton, British Columbia.
