Race Memories from the Fall Super Cup Rd 4 Finale @ Southside RC

The JConcepts 2017 Fall Super Cup Rd 4 at Southside R/C Raceway in Lake City, Florida, marked the end of a fabulous fall season. The Florida race scene has been strong all year long with great turnouts for the Spring and Fall Super Cup Series. Unfortunately, the rescheduling of round 4 due to a rainy weekend forecast, pushed the finale into mid-December and with the holiday season just around the corner, we were glad the turnout was above expectation and the racing was in full-speed form.

Huge thanks to Brian Lews, Lance MacDonald, and many others for putting in countless hours of hard work and terrific track prep providing us an awesome track to race on. With the uniquely large size of the Southside RC track, the driving sensation is similar to what it’s like driving on a 1/8th scale track. Rightfully so…. as Southside R/C Raceway will be hosting the highly anticipated 2018 ROAR 1/8th Fuell Nationals next summer!

The layout was a blast and navigating an RC car on this huge track and going wide open is heavenly. The combination of tricky jumps and elevation changes added to the challenge, but overall positively contributed to the fun factor. With the late Saturday sun coming out, the track heated up resulting in a nice groove for added traction.

Independent 2wd Stock Buggy

It was a dream drive for Jefferey Rhodes in the Independent 17.5 2wd Buggy class as he was able to pilot his car from the 7th spot on the grid to 1st on the podium after moving into the lead on lap 1. Kenny Setser jumped up a spot from being 3rd place qualifier to 2nd place finisher. Tracey Proctor would wrap up the top 3 in the Super Cup’s most popular class.

Independent 2wd Stock Truck

It was another great showing by Jefferey Rhodes in the Independent Stock Truck class taking home another win. Much like in 2wd buggy, Rhodes would take the lead spot after lap one and turn on the afterburners to take the win. Tracey Proctor finished 2nd in an intense battle and just .67 seconds ahead of Billy Barrow.

Independent 2wd Stock Short Course

The Independent Short Course racers put on a great show. It was a three truck battle for the win, but ultimately Scott Setser took the 1st place prize ahead of class TQ, Tracey Proctor. Wrapping up the 3rd and the final spot on the podium was Zachary Schmidt.

17.5 Expert 2wd Buggy

It was a showdown between two elite 17.5 Expert Stock drivers and emerging victorious was JConcepts’ Edwin Mctureous. With a narrow margin of 1.55 seconds over Trinity’s Alan Wight, Mctureous would take the top step with Wight 2nd and JConcepts’ Patrick Rossiter Jr. 3rd.

13.5 4wd Buggy

It was a dominant performance by Tekno/JConcepts’ Patrick Rossiter Jr. in the 13.5 4wd class showcasing his speed and track adaptability to win by a large margin. Brian Lewis wrapped up the 2nd spot over 3rd place finisher Ryan Castline.

40+ Open 2wd Buggy

The 40+ 2wd Open class saw JConcepts’ Edwin Mctureous once again outclass the field with a dominating performance to take his 2nd win of the day. JConcepts’ Walter Cruz also put in a great drive to finish 2nd and Christian Birol 3rd to round out the top 3.

Open Short Course

Always showing great speed in the Open Short Course class, Vince McMahon delivered once again taking another series race win. Jeff Lynn finished 2nd with Bobby Lafrate 3rd.

4×4 Short Course

Proving to be too fast for the competition, Xray’s Brian Lewis went on to take the win over 2nd place Ed Devlin and 3rd place Jason Davis in the 4×4 Short Course class.

Open Stadium Truck

JConcepts’ Justin Olds would take a great win in the Open Stadium Truck class with consistent, smooth driving. Walter Cruz would deliver a great run in the 6-minute single A-Main for 2nd with Vince McMahon 3rd overall.

2wd Modified

In the most exciting race of the day, it was the veteran and RC legends, Jason Ruona and Paul Wynn going head to head in 2wd Modified class. Jason would lead the field from the tone, but a few small mistakes saw Jason drop to 4th and Paul Wynn go to the front. It was a close 4 car battle, but Jason would inch his way towards the front picking off Daimon Borkowicz and Lee Setser. A small mistake by Wynn on the last lap would give Ruona the lead for the last 2 corners. Wynn would throw the Hail Mary pass attempt nearly pulling it off with perfection. As the two dragged raced across the finish line, Ruona would take the win by .039 seconds over Wynn. Daimon Borkowicz would find himself in 3rd.

4wd Modified

It was a gutsy performance by AE/JConcepts’ Daimon Borkowicz in the 4wd Modified class with very limited practice time. AE/JConcepts’ Lee Setser would set the TQ and put in a great performance holding off the ultra-fast Borkowicz. However, after recovering from a few bobbles, Borkowicz would mount a charge and put on an ultra-clean pass on Setser for the lead. From there, Borkowicz would stretch out a small gap and take the win. Setser would finishthe day in 2nd and Xray’s Landen Lewis would close out the final spot on the podium in 3rd.
