Race Report by Kaja Novotny

The 1st round of Open Challenge series took place last weekend in Ruzyne. Organisers prepared pretty easy layout which promised close racing. Combined with quite old carpet with low traction, it was something completely different compared to “modern” form of carpet racing!

In 4wd, my Hobbywing powered XB4 was flying on the track, set the fastest lap of the race and TQed all 3 rounds. In finals my I managed to pull away and win first two legs! Michal Binder and Jindrich Jirak completed the podium – both with XB4!

In 2wd, it was a bigger challenge than 4wd (for everyone) - low traction carpet, linoleum, high speed corner and huuuge jumps. Marcel Dostal was on point in Q1, but eventually I managed to snatch TQ in that run. I went step by step then with setup and TQed remaining rounds! One highlight of qualifications – XB2s filled whole A-main!

In finals, I always managed to pull away while Michal Blahovsky and Marcel Dostal battled each final for the 2ndspot with Marcel eventually coming out better!

It was nice to be back at the series which I attended few years back and to see some old friends! Shame about “tire eating” carpet, but at least we had something different compared to other races. Thanks a lot to my parents and to all my sponsors!
