RiseUp Hobbytown in Palm Desert California hosted the Race for Desi Charity Race to benefit the Desi Strong Foundation. The Foundation helps children and family’s world wide. The Family has even developed a doll that helps children understand what they will be going through during treatments. For more info check out the https://www.desistrongfoundation.org

Gerardo Gonzales of Proline daughter received help from the Desi Strong Foundation this last year as she went though treatments for cancer. Being September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month Gerardo came to RiseUp about hosting a race to help the charity that helped them so much. With the help of so many manufactures the raﬄe had to be one of the biggest ever seen. Ty Tessmann even donated his electric oﬀ-road national trophy’s that were auctioned in a special silent auction to bring even more money in for the charity.

Everyone at the event had some deep pockets and when all was said and done between straight donations, silent auction’s and the raﬄe we were able to give the Desi Strong Foundation $5671.00. I think everyone was blown away and proud to be apart of this.

RiseUp had never looked better with an all new layout designed by Blake Webster and a contrasting colored infield put in by the RiseUp crew. Even the pits got a makeover with re- designed pit tables and extra tables were even brought in to handle the expected large turnout.

85 Drivers totaled up to 117 entries descended on the track for a great day of racing and support for the charity. Daniel Adams of Proline would come out of his announcing retirement to announce 1 last great event and kept the race running smooth all day long. To keep things fair tech was handled by Brian Sullivan of Proline as all cars would have to pass Weight, Voltage, Ride Height and chassis skins before entering the track. 9 diﬀerent classes filled the day from novice to modified and the track gave the racers a proper challenge. The format consisted of 2-4min quals and a re-sort after round 1 with 7min main events. Several pro’s also attended the event including Frank Root from TLR, Jake Mayo from Xray. Frank would also give the new TLR 4wd its first win at an event.

The Big event of the day was the Desi Race where children being helped by the foundation took a turn behind the wheel of Traxxas Slashes outfitted with Proline Tires and Bodies painted by Rugspin Graphix with the Desi-Strong logo’s. The kids were paired up mentors Gerardo Gonzales of Proline, Eric Epp of Protoform, Frank Root of TLR, and Emma Ramirez from Ricochet Raceway. The crowd grew and cheered on as the kids took the track for a 5 lap run. The kids were so excited driving but the smiles couldn’t have been bigger on the mentors themselves. All the kids received a Carls JR gift card donated by Michael Simmons. Everyone agreed that it was a nice change of pace to take the time out of the event and do something fun for kids with cancer.
