Race Report by Mark Sousa

This past weekend I went back to The Rc Factory for the 1/8th portion of the CRCRC Midwest champs. There was open practice on Thursday and I focused on trying to get my cars dialed in for the slippery track surface.

Friday was seeding and I was able to put 3 good laps in a row in both nitro buggy and electric buggy to take the top seed in both classes. But after seeding there was still a few things I wanted to work on to make my cars better going into qualifying. Me and my dad aswell as the help from Gord and Ty all agree to make some changes that would make my cars much better.

On Saturday we had 3 rounds of qualifying and it was best 2 out of 3. First up was electric buggy and my car felt pretty good the whole qual until I made a small mistake towards the end which caused me to fall to 2nd. In nitro I was leading again and made a small mistake toward the middle which caused me to go to 3rd which is where I would stay. Round 2 in Electric I wanted to try different tires and they didn’t work in my favour. I would have a rough run and finish pretty far back In nitro I had a lot more pace after some setup changes and me and Tyler Jones battles for the whole qual with him edging me out by .5 of a sec. Round 3 I was finally able to have some better pace in electric and was able to take the round 3 TQ and will line up 2nd behind Adam Johnson. In nitro I was leading again all the way till the last lap when a Marshall was standing in the way of a corner I couldn’t see which cause me to turn in early and hit the pipe. I would end up starting 3rd in the main.

In Nitro buggy I was in a intense battle with Tyler and Adam for the first 15 minutes until I suffered a mechanical which was all my fault and I take full responsibility for it. Congrats to my new teammate Adam Johnson on his win.

In both of the E buggy mains I was able to get good starts in both and was able to make passes on Adam early which would allow me to try and pull away. After I got a bit of a gap I tried to back it down a bit to manage the gap and was able to cruise to the win in both mains.
