A Moment with Mike is a weekly opinion column where LiveRC’s Mike Garrison gives his take on hot-button issues, general topics, and conversations within the RC industry. The views and opinions expressed in this article do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of LiveRC.

R/C car racing for new racers can often be very intimidating, and perhaps the most intimidating part of it all is car maintenance and setup. Eventually the shocks, diffs, drivetrain, and other key parts of your R/C car are going to get worn out and need some tender loving care (especially if you drive a lot). As you progress and gain speed, you will also need the knowledge of setup on your side to compete with the best.

The top pro drivers in R/C have the highest levels of talent, skill, speed, and knowledge. The talent, skill, and speed is most often attributed to hours and hours of practice and dedication, but where does the knowledge come from and how are new racers supposed to learn it?

While there isn’t a college course or degree for learning the different setups, maintenance routines, tips, tricks, and experiences that experienced racers and pros use to their advantage, there is one way that many of the industries most respected have made it possible – YouTube and Social Media.

I’ve said it a thousand times, this hobby needs new racers to continue growing as well as fill the shoes of the long-time racers who have decided it’s time to retire. A key part of doing this is eliminating the intimidation, welcoming, and helping new enthusiasts learn. Sharing knowledge is a pretty good place to start, and today I have put together a list of my personal favorite YouTube and Facebook video pages which are full of R/C racing knowledge for BOTH new and experienced racers to learn from and enjoy.

My Recommended Racer How-To, Car Setup, & General R/C Explanation Video Pages:

Please keep in mind that these are NOT all of the knowledgable drivers and resources out there, these are simply a very FEW of my personal favorites. MANY of the manufacturer's and industry brands also offer a wide range of very useful video resources via YouTube, Facebook, and/or their own blog pages as well. Please do not be offended, feel left out, our get your undies in a bunch if your favorite pages did not make the list, but instead, share them in comments below!

Reach out to new racers at your local track, share your knowledge, your favorite videos, YouTube channels, and the resources that have helped you learn and love the world of R/C racing.
