LRT Raceway Race Report:
Report by Danny Bartholomew

The 3rd Annual Karsyn’s Krusaders Off-Road Challenge was held on Saturday, August 3rd at LRT Raceway in Evansdale, IA. Karsyn’s Krusaders is a local charity that raises money for families affected by cancer through selling t-shirts, hoodies and other merchandise at full-scale dirt oval tracks all around the country. This years RC event brought 51 entries to LRT Raceway from Iowa and Nebraska to compete in a wide range of classes from 2wd Short Course to 1/8 Nitro Buggy. Many great companies donated prizes for the raffle which was a big hit. Raffle ticket sales and Karsyn’s Merchandise sales raised $945 for the charity.

Huge thanks to all the racers that attended for their outstanding generosity and to all the companies that donated prizes. Hobbico, Avid RC and Novak Electronics.

On to the racing action: LRT provided a fast, smooth but extremely technical layout that suited all classes well. Some light showers dampened Friday evening practice but provided the perfect amount of moisture for Saturday and a wide black groove quickly developed.

2wd Open Short Course: Caring on their battles from the Hobbyplex Summer Series in Omaha, NE. Young guns driving for Associated, Alex Vanderbeek and Kyosho’s Dillan Voelker took to the outdoor track at LRT. Vanderbeek would secure the overall TQ honors, but after a bad start could not real in Voelker who would hold on for the win, with Vanderbeek rallying for 2nd and Luke Pelzer, rounding out the podium in 3rd.

4wd Open Short Course: 4wd also saw AE’s Alex Vanderbeek pace the field throughout qualifying. The main was much of the same while Adam Grimm and Jason Bloom kept the young driver honest; they would finish up in that order.

1/8 Sportsman Buggy: A full line up of 11 Sportsman Buggies roared to life for 20 minutes of action, with TQ Seth Freeze leading out, 3rd place qualifier Jason Chandler would soon take over the lead and never look back. Freeze settled in for a solid 2nd place run as a heated battle for 3rd between Rick Christensen and Nitro Al Larson. Christensen would keep it wheels down to secure 3rd place.

1/8 Truggy: Truggy turnout was light so Pro and Sportsman were combined but scored separately. Tony Bacon would pace the field and take home the win in the Pro Class with Shane Luckey in 2nd. The other half of the field saw Joe Cox take home the win followed by Nitro Al Larson and Phil Knoll in the Sportsman Class

1/8 Electric Buggy: Jason Bloom would capture the TQ with his Tekno EB-48. Bloom would jump out to a massive lead at the start and even a broken shock towards the end of the race, he would hold off Xray USA’s Danny Bartholomew and Aaron Martin.

1/8 Pro Buggy: 3 rounds of qualifying saw 3 different drivers take a TQ round. Tony Bacon would start from the 1 in the 30 minute final. As many as 4 different drivers took their turn up front through the first 2/3 of the race when attrition started to set in and it came down to Devin McGee and Sam Anderson battling for the win. Anderson kept his Losi 3.0’s AKA Tires on the ground to bring home the win with McGee coming home 2nd and Xray USA’s Danny Bartholomew rallying back for 3rd.
