CML Race Report:

It was another AE show at round 6 of the TMSC 13 held at Coventry.

AE took 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall in qualifying and 1st and 2nd in the race. With some bad weather pencilled in for the entire country and a wet build up to the sunday race the decision was made to host the race on the Astroturf rather than the dirt at Coventry. The luxury of having 2 tracks and a wise choice made for the day.

With a pending weekend storm the entry was low, many people opting to stay warm and dry for the weekend. However it could have been much worse and the rain didn't start until late in the afternoon. A 10 minute heavy downpour followed by light drizzle would be the best way to describe the weather. The most uncomfortable part was the wind.

Some early confusion during the first round of qualifying saw the first round scrapped and called timed practice. This disgruntled a few to scrap the entire round but it was the best option in my opinion. Because 2 or 3 heats suffered from the same problems.

Into the first round of qualifying and it was Drescher who posted the first TQ of the day- with his main nemesis (Sloppy) off on gardening duties (ordered by the wife) it was a case of Drescher maximising his points intake from the round and not succumbing to a DNF in the final. After round 1 it was TQ for Drescher in all 3 rounds with continual improvements to lap times and overall times throughout the day.

Drescher was happy with his car in qualifying and said the only thing he changed was "ride height - lowering the car to give it more corner speed on the smooth coventry track and increasing the thickness of the front roll bar to increase the high speed stability”

Drescher opted for a unusual tyre choice during the qualification rounds which remained damp even though it didn't rain. Schumacher mini spikes in silver. When asked what Drescher said it was something he tried in practice because the astro is a short pile and it was damp he wanted a tyre that didn’t flex and move around. Something that was direct and carried good corner speed. It was a toss up between mini pins and spikes in silver compound. Both were very good although the wear rate was higher with the pins because of the cobbles.
In the final with the rain coming in and more water on the track a bigger spike was needed so Drescher chose his trusted Twisters.

Arron Girling put in a stunning performance for the day to finish up with his best ever qualifying at a TMSC round and qualified a very well deserved 2nd overall. Adam Taylor was also looking good despite his knee injury. Qualifying in a very solid 3rd place but some mechanical gremlins put pay to any change of doing well in the final after running in 2nd for a very long time. Arron drove an awesome race after starting from the pit lane and he managed to pull himself back to 2nd place. Something he should be very proud of.
