Super Cup Championships Series Round 3 - JConcepts Race Report
NewRed Hobbies was the site for round 3 of the Super Cup Series, held on October 29th, in Ocala, Florida. A great weekend to be at an indoor track, as drizzle, and rain was coming down Friday evening, and Saturday morning. The NewRed crew had the new layout prepared, with a good variation of jumps, and a very consistent surface.
Racing started right on time as Mike Applegate and Dave Dominguez got down to business with 174 entries, and 20 heats. Qualifying ran smoothly, the format would be two rounds of qualifying, going on rocket-round, the top 8 going to the main, with two bump-ups, from the lower main events.
With the mains set, it was time to get on with the show. First up was the “kid” who stole the show. Having a terrible day of qualifying in Stock Buggy, Daimon Borkowicz won the “C” main. Started off 9th in the “B”, and within the first few minutes, was already threatening the front of the field. With about two minutes to go, he moved into 2nd, and started hunting down the leader, Jason Venezia. A bobble by Jason, and Daimon was right on his bumper. Instead of just settling for the transfer spot, it was a battle to win the race. The last two laps were almost side by side, swapping for the lead. With a last corner dive, they went across the line at the same time, with Jason’s transponder picking up first, for the win, and the last two spots in the “A” main would go to the battling drivers.
In the “A” final, running clean laps, 10th place qualifier Daimon, was already in 4th place by lap three. TQ Ruffy Rios was in front, and the battle for position was on for the podium. Late in the race, Daimon found his way to 2nd, and was hunting down the leader. With about a minute to go, a mistake by Rios put Daimon in the lead. At the buzzer, it was Daimon Borkowicz, all of the way from the “C” main, for the win, followed by Ruffy Rios, and Mike Applegate. The top 3 drivers all relied on JConcepts tires. Daimon’s B4.1 was equipped with Bar Codes tires in gold compound and Finnisher body and Hi-Clearance rear wing.
2wd Modified hit the track, with TQ Paul Wynn, followed by a host of Florida’s fastest. This race was pretty much a freight train from the start. Jason Ruona maintained his number two spot but a mistake allowed a small battle for second place. A mistake from Felix Law would drop him back a few spots and Leon McIntosh would now battle for 2nd and 3rd. Just past the half-way point, coming into traffic, Wynn had some issues with traffic, allowing Ruona to jump his way into the lead. Zach Genova worked his way from the bump up number ten position and past Leon into third. Crossing the line for the finish, it was Jason Ruona with the win, Paul Wynn 2nd, and Zach Genova in 3rd, making it a sweep, of JConcepts bodies, and Bar Codes in Gold compound.
Tim Moon had the TQ in Stock Truck and he maintained his lead. A bobble by Walter Cruz would shuffle him back, allowing Mike Applegate to move into 2nd, and Kory Ferguson 3rd. At the tone, this trio would get the extra lap, and secure their podium spot. Keeping their gap the same on the final lap, it was Tim Moon with the win, followed by Mike Applegate, and Kory Ferguson.
Modified Truck was all TQ Caleb Ohara with a wire to wire win, followed by Mike Barone in 2nd, and Dave Dominguez 3rd.
Stock Short Course, the largest class of the day, was next. TQ Dave Bowser lead the parade of Short Course trucks at the tone. Some hectic battles, and a few mistakes, changed the running order several times per lap. By the middle of the race, number two qualifier Daimon Borkowicz had the lead, Dave Bowser had gotten knocked out of the top three, and 3rd qualifier Michael Bruce was getting pressure from the back from his brother Billy. At the buzzer, it was Daimon with his 2nd win of the day, Billy Bruce fought his way to 2nd, and Michael Bruce grabbed 3rd place. Daimon’s winning SC10 Factory Team was outfitted with JC Raptor body, Bar Codes tires in gold compound and Hazard +3mm wheels.
4wd Modified had TQ Felix Law laying down the laps, with the rest of the field chasing him down. With everyone running their own pace, the only battle was to get to the finish. At the tone, it was Felix with the win, Mike Barone 2nd, and Zach Genova 3rd. Felix’s B44.1 was outfitted with Bar Codes tires in blue compound, Punisher body and 6.5” HD rear wing.
Pro 4 SCT was led once again by TQ Felix Law laying down the…..law. While a hectic battle for the rest of the field was taking place. 2nd through 6th were swapping back and forth, only one mistake could shuffle drivers back several positions. In the end, it was Felix with a comfortable lead and 1st place, a mad dash to the finish would find Cory Schoppmeyer 2nd, and Lazi Jamos 3rd. Felix’s Losi SCT-E was equipped with JC Raptor body, Bar Codes in gold compound and Rulux wheels.
Pro 2 Mod was hotly contested and Paul Wynn with his second TQ of the day lined up at the front. At the tone, it was Wynn who led the entire race, with the guys in the middle of the pack in a battle, with many position changes throughout. In the end, Wynn took 1st place, Zach Genova moving his way into 2nd with a strong drive, and Ryan Eckert battling back and forth to end up in 3rd. Both Paul Wynn and Zack Genova relied on JConcepts to tackle the Short Course Class. Hi-Flow body, Bar Codes in gold compound mounted on Hazard +3mm wheels topped off the top 2 vehicles.
As the day came to a close, an awesome day of racing at New Red Hobbies was had by all. Thank you goes out to the track crew for a job well done, and to the Super Cup race directors for a smooth and well run program. Most of all, thank you to the racers and the large group of people that turned out. See you at the next Super Cup, November 26th, in Daytona.
Tanner Denney wins at KBRL! - JConcepts Race Report
Round 2 of the KBRL Series kicked off at the Fear Farm location in Phoenix, Arizona. A record 200 entries showed up to compete in the fast growing series. The traction level provided was extremely hooked up with a watered surface a relatively loose when it was dry. Tire choice as well as driver changes were necessary to compete all day long at the Fear Farm.
JConcepts / Durango driver Billy Fischer struck hard in the 2wd modified class by TQ’ing the competitive class ahead of teammate Brian Kinwald. During the opening moments of the main event, mistakes by the leaders sent guys in all directions. Tanner Denney emerged with the lead and stretched it with his JConcepts equipped B4.1 to a 10 second margin. Teammate Brian Kinwald remained in the 2nd position and looked to hunt down “the kid” Denney. During the closing laps Tanner got caught up in traffic allowing the margin between him and Kinwald to be cut in half. Tanner would not be denied and finished off the remaining laps in style cruising to a big victory on the popular series. Brian Kinwald finished 2nd and Chris Wheeler 3rd. Tanner Denney, Brian Kinwald and Billy Fischer chose JConcepts all weekend long. The victorious setup on Tanner’s Team Associated B4.1 buggy was the trusty Groovy front and Double Dees rear tire combination in green compound secured to the vehicle with 8/32” serrated wheel nuts. The ride was topped off with a Finnisher body and Hi-Clearance wing. Congratulations to Kenny Brosh and Fear Farm on another successful event. JBRL Electric Round 8 - JConcepts Race Report
Losi’s Frank Root, Doug “Casper” Nielsen, Ryan Dunford, and Keith Whisler attended the 2011 JBRL Finals this past Saturday at Hot Rod Hobbies. The track had fantastic traction, and a fast, flowing, and fun layout. The entry count was very strong at just under 200 and a great day of racing was had by all. With JBRL overall titles on the line in several classes, everyone brought their A-Game for the final round. As always, JConcepts Short Course Tires were the #1 choice.
Pro2 (Modified SC) – Frank’s Losi XXX-SCT equipped with the TLR Tuned Kit was untouchable all day. Frank chose to run Bar Codes all around for the first qualifying, but opted for Orange fronts and Green rears due to the lower track temp for the morning run. Frank was on a strong TQ run when he was forced to retire from the heat. The 2nd round came up just after 1pm, and the track was warm and primed for a fast run. Frank would chose Orange BC front and rear, and the choice was correct. Frank took a strong TQ, by over 5 seconds; his 4th TQ in 6 rounds this year. The single 6-minute main would be run under the lights, and even though the ambient temperature dropped 20F, the track temp was still rather warm, so Frank decided to run the same tires from round 2. After a small bobble Frank dropped back to 4th, he quickly regained his composure and moved back into the lead. With optimum traction, Frank would then pull away taking the win by almost half a lap! This was also Frank’s 4th win in 6 races, a great 2011 JBRL season for the XXX-SCT and JConcepts SC Tires!
Pro Buggy (NT Stock SC Buggy) – Doug “Casper” Nielsen, Ryan Dunford, and Keith Whisler put on the most entertaining racing of the weekend. The XXX-SCB demo class ran heads up starts for qualifying, and the battles were intense, with Keith Whisler taking the TQ. Keith, Ryan, and Doug were all running JConcepts Orange Bar Codes, so when the main started, it was an all-out war. During the early part of the main, everyone was taking their turn in the lead. Late in the race, Dunford and Casper had separated themselves from the pack and started to duke it out for the win. Dunford would make a bold last lap pass on Casper and narrowly take the win. Look out for this class to grow in the JBRL series next year!
Mazzeo at the Novarossi Trophy Race - Serpent Race Report
The trophy Novarossi which was held last week in Gubbio, in the same run of the 2009 European Championship.
The race was a huge success, 150 members, and 112 participants, divided into two categories 1/8 and 1/10.
In 1/10 pilots participated as Spataro and Balestri. On Saturday, there were three heats of qualifications where for various misfortunes we were second behind Spataro, but in the second round we have set a new lap record abbot 15,517 the old record, I have always done well for 4 / 10.
On Sunday morning the final round, which took us to mark the final poleposition followed by Spataro and Balestri. The final was a replica of the heats or at least seemed, after the first 12 laps I had a big lead already and openede more in the 2nd half but a car spun in front of me, making inevitable the impact and the subsequent broke the 733 car.
A race dominated from day one with pole position and lap record. The 733 car has proven performance in all conditions, as demonstrated by the fact that in every heat we did score daily starting always faster. To support the excellent performance of the 733 car was the new engine max power, who has completed the package except for any "surprises" such as Gubbio, it looks good for 2012.
Ciao Ciao Alessio Mazzeo
Daniel Vega and Agama at the Madrid Championships - Agama Race Report
What a great race for us, we managed to TQ all the qualifying rounds, lined up first and second on the grid for the main final. It was great to see many people using the Agama A8-Evo in both semi-finals, many of them raced great and progressed to the main final as well.
The final started and I had a bobble due to a small touch from another car, then I made my own mistake in the woops, Daniel Pariente was now leading, but after some laps I managed to recuperate the lead.
After 10 minutes I made a mistake and the car when out of the track, unfortunately the marshall flamed the engine and I lost the lead, when I returned to the race I found myself with Alberto who was figting with many other cars, we made a nice battle and finally I could move forward from him and try to catch the leaders during the rest of the final, Finally I caught up with the leader, he was racing well and closing all the doors in every corner and forcing to me to make mistakes everytime that I tried to pass him, but finally I found the way to pass and pull away to win the race of Madrid Championship.
The car was amazing and this was the sixth race with exactly the same set up. We are every day more and more confortable with the car, its great to be able to just concentrate on learning tracks and selecting the correct tires rather than loosing time trying to find the best set-up. But even so, we keep working to find more great set ups for all styles and levels of drivers, from beginner to expert.
Report by Daniel Vega.
Roar Region 8 Championships - Team Associated Race Report
Hobbytown in Omaha, Nebraska was the setting for this year’s ROAR Region 8 Off-Road event. There were nearly 150 racers at the newly enclosed HobbyPlex to battle for Midwest bragging rights. The facility at the HobbyPlex is just amazing, with indoor carpet and dirt along with a full-line hobby shop, which brought in a good amount of retail hobby spectators to a racing event.
Cody Jandrakovic took the 2WD Modified Buggy class -- making fifteen regional wins for Cody over the years! Cody also TQ'd and finished second in 2WD Modified stadium truck. "Went to the track with my starting setups and never changed a thing on my vehicles. Reedy batteries provided tons of power for my LRP brushless systems. JConcepts tires provided outstanding traction."
Aaron Bahner also had a good weekend for the team, clinching wins in 17.5 Buggy and 17.5 Truck. “Both my cars were great right from the start of practice. The support and advice from my other teammates gave me an edge on tire selection, setup, and gearing before I even got to the track.”

Hupo wins Indoor Motor Show - Team Durango Race Report
The race was held on a big Motor Show in Wels / Upper-Austria, it is always a good race, because there are thousands of spactators and the track is very special every year!
Hupo reports: This year we raced on polished asphalt with 20% carpet and wooden jumps – this means you are close to a touring car setup; the traction was crazy high and cars wanted to flip over everywhere; My car was very good from practise number one – I just fine tuned the setup and concentrated on tires; We used Diesel to make the tires softer. Number one choice in the end was Proline Holeshot M3 Semi-Slick for most of the drivers. I was quickest in every practise, so I did not change the car for qualifying; In qualifying I had terrible traffic all the time – which cost me a lot of time in every qualifyer; I ended up only 3rd, which was very disappointing!
In my Semi same thing again – my car was fast, but maximum traffic – I had to start from the number 2 spot in the final. In the final got taken out at the start and had to go through almost the complete field – after a couple of minutes i could catch the leader, overtake him and extended the lead to over a lap in the end.
Round #1 of the 1/12 BRCA Championship featured a great result by Team Associated/Reedy/LRP factory driver Olly Jefferies. Host track Ardent Raceway, a favorite among the racers, was the perfect venue to begin an exciting new season. Olly quickly seized control of the round by putting his Team Associated 12R5.1 on the pole position for Saturday's 10.5 Stock class qualifying.
Building a small gap from his pole position start, Olly came across a crashed car which he could not avoid. The incident dropped him to the back of the field but a never-give-up attitude allowed Olly to claw his way through the field and eventually cross the finish line in third position. Although disappointing, it was a great result considering the journey taken to get there.
Sunday's Modified qualifying went exactly as it had on Saturday, with Olly sitting comfortably on the pole position for the Final. Nothing would stand in his way this time. Olly led the Final wire-to-wire to take an impressive victory and the points lead heading into round #2.
Chad Bradley wins again! - Proline Race Report
Once again the Pro 4 class topped the night with a total of 18 trucks and close to 90 entries for the Tuesday night club race at Hot Rod Hobbies in Santa Clarita CA. Many drivers were on hand getting ready for the Electric JBRL Finals coming up this Saturday at Hot Rod’s. In the Pro 4 SC class Chad Bradley driving OFNA’s Nexx10SC took the top qualifying spot in both rounds of qualifying. Chad said that the truck has been working very good and set the TQ by a lap and 4 seconds over the next fastest time. In the 8 minute main Chad drove a near flawless run allowing him to break away from the rest of the field and took the win by a couple laps over second place finisher Mike Allen and Eric Beier who finished in the third spot.
Pos. - Driver - Short Course 1st/TQ - Chad Bradley - Nexx10sc 2nd - Mike Allen - DESC410 3rd - Eric Beier - DESC410
