8-28-2011 -- MAIN DAY

Main day greeted us with a slightly cooler weather to start off the day, but that didn't stop the heat from rising on the track!

Electric 1/8 buggy kicked off the first of the Pro A-Mains. One 10 minute main determined the Byron Fuels Electric Champion. When the tone sounded it was the top secret DNX408e that would shoot out front. Lutz started out front, and would run out front all the way to finish! The RC8Be of Michael Paige would finish up in the 2nd place spot with Mugen's Ben Burtle rounding out the top 3.

Pro truggy was next in the day's lineup of Pro AMains. TQ, Ryan Lutz, would see problems early on that would bring him into the pits more than once for repairs. It was Xray's Josh Wheeler, who started in the 2nd place spot, that would capitalize on Lutz misfortune to bring his Xray XT8 to victory! The field spread out considerably over the course of 45 minutes, with no one finishing on the same lap. Patrick Castleberry would wheel his way to 2nd over Team Associated's Michael Paige in 3rd.

Pro buggy was the final race of the day, and it would end the day with a bang! While Lutz, Paige, Branham, and Josh Wheeler started out front, it would be JUSTIN Wheeler who would take over the early lead! Bumping up from the B-Main, Justin wheeled the Xray 808 to the front. At the 10 minute mark Josh Wheeler would strike disaster ending his race and hopes of the win. Justin Wheeler still out front running strong at 19 minute mark, when suddenly his receiver pack failed! Both Wheeler brothers off the track now, and it was Team Durango's Ryan Lutz who was back out front. Jason Branham with his all-new Agama held a close second and Patrick Castleberry would finish up third.

8-27-2011 -- QUALIFYING DAY

Qualifying kicked off early this morning with a full-day of racing ahead! The Dirtburner's crew kept the pace moving quickly and made for a very efficient day. The dust was flying, the sun was beating down, but nothing was hotter than the racing on the track!

QUALIFYING REPORT

Pro Buggy started off the day with all of the hotshoes from yesterday's practice running within tenths of a second to each other. The top three drivers throughout qualifying proved to be Team Durango's Ryan Lutz, Xray's Josh Wheeler, and Team Associated's Mikey Paige. Each one of these driver's would take a TQ, however, it was the solid consistancy of AE's Michael Paige who would take the overall TQ spot for tomorrow's A-Main.

Pro truggy was dominated by the Conwell Motorsports "rent-a-ride" driven by Ryan Lutz. Paige would once again prove strong in truggy, but not quite enough to take another overall TQ. The truggy class, missing several of the front runners from the buggy class, is stacked with local talent who were mere seconds off the top spots.

Electric 1/8 buggy was a race that all eyes were on. The racing was good, but it was the car leading the pack that everyone wanted to see more of! Team Durango's, Ryan Lutz, debuted a prototype DNX408e buggy. The car was seen flying around the track, but was quickly taken out of sight and covered off the track. We will be spending some time with Ryan tomorrow to find out more on the highly confidential and top secret buggy that would dominate electric 1/8 qualifying!

IN THE PITS

As we mentioned the DNX408e has been spotted, and has already proven to be a race winning machine. HOPEFULLY we can squeeze out some info on the buggy during tomorrows race day.

Jason Branham is looking strong with his new Agama buggy, and we will be sitting down with Branham as well for an inside look at his new ride!

One of our personal favorite pit finds of the day was only a few tents over from us. As 1/8 Expert driver Chris "Cool" Puller was doing a little parking lot tuning, we met his family dog. This pitbull pup is no ordinary dog, he is the next super marshall! With no fear of nitro buggies, he followed Puller's buggy up and down pit road and even picked it up to carry it around for a bit!!! We expect him to be out tomorrow as a volunteer turn marshall.

The Dirtburner's Crew and Byron Fuels has put together a great race that has offered not only great racing, but great fun for everyone in the park. Constant spectators ranging from boy scout troops, park visitors, nearby ball teams, and even the country's brave troops came out to enjoy some racing!

Tomorrow kicks off main day bright and early, with raffles and more included in the fun!

Pics coming soon!

8-26-2011 -- FRIDAY PRACTICE
Once again we have made our way to Dirtburner's R/C located just outside of St. Louis, MO. This time we are on hand for daily race reports, photos, and exclusive news from the 2011 Byron Fuels Midwest Nitro Challenge!

The Dirtburner's track crew have put together a completely new layout for the race, and quite opposite from the supercross style Futaba Challenge track last month, they have designed a very challenging "Euro style" course with minimal jumps but instead high speed sweepers, lots of elevation changes, and even a Euro style mogul section.

With a hot and dry summer season, the dust was flying high today. On hand for the race are a list of heavy hitters including Team Durango's Ryan Lutz, Team Associated's Mikey Paige, Team Xray's Josh Wheeler, Team Agama's Jason Branham, JQ's Matt Gosch and many more!

Practice today saw some early troubles for several of the top drivers, but by the end of the day the fast laps were being laid down! With no major technical jump sections, the track is demanding perfection from drivers. Along with the challenging layout, the dry and hot weather is causing the track to get rough early on.

Byron Fuels, Bobbi Clausen, has made the trip out as well. An early start tomorrow for qualifying, raffles, and more will kick off a great start to the first annual Byron Fuels Midwest Nitro Challenge!

Stay tuned in everyday for daily race reports, and more right here on LiveRC!
