Lucas Oil R/C Short Course Enduro - Team Associated Race Report

Congratulations to little 6-year old Reese Meyer for being the last man standing on both days of the Lucas Oil R/C Short Course Invitational enduro!

Taking place at the 2011 Sand Sports Super Show, Reese was able to keep his Reedy batteries alive in his SC10 for over 30 minutes on both days! Reese was up against some pretty heavy competition but he stayed cool under the pressure.

Team Associated ran demos and races throughout the days of the Sand Sports Super Show, and fun was had by all! The Lucas Oil/Team Associated display area was the place to be to meet some of your favorite RC and full scale drivers. On hand was 2011 I.F.M.A.R World Champion Ryan Cavalieri signing autographs along with Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series driver Carl Renezender, and many more pro racers making the scene!

JBRL Electric Series - Team Associated Race Report

The Jimmy Babcock Racing League (JBRL) series is one of the most popular series events in Southern California. With rounds all across SoCal, the OC/RC round is one of the premier events given it's location and facility.

Team Associated was represented well with drivers in almost all the classes. The most prestigious classes, however, were 2WD and 4WD Modified. This is where Steven Hartson laid down the law with TQ runs in both classes and finished it off with two wins as well.

Hartson, utilizing Reedy batteries and LRP X12 motors in his JConcepts-equipped B4.1 and B44.1, was never challenged in the 4WD main event.  However, a bobble in the 2WD main saw others lead, including teammate Chris Jarosz. With determination and raw speed, Hartson fought back to the front of the pack with only laps remaining in the event to claim his second victory of the long day.

Nitrohouse Open - TLR Race Report

This weekend was action packed with two events at two different tracks in Southern CA.  The first event was at Revelation Raceway.  The Nitrohouse Open had 100 entries and consistent of two qualifiers and mains.  TLR / Novarossi factory pilot Adam Drake set the pace in both rounds of buggy and truck by being the only driver to turn 10 laps.  In the buggy final Drake was followed close by Jeremy Kortz and Drew Moller in the opening laps, but Drake ran solid the entire 30 minutes and won the final by more than one lap.  In the truck final Drake and Moller had a great race until Drake ran out of fuel. This gave Moller a huge lead and he cruised to victory.  Drake came back to finish second and Chris Nunez was third.

Shortcourse Showdown - TLR Race Report

At the fourth and final event of the Short Course Showdown series hosted by Mikes Hobby Shop in Dallas, Texas, it was Losi's Dustin Evans who flat out dominated the event with his Orion powered Losi XXX-SCT and Ten SCT-E. Beginning with the Modified Short Course Class, Dustin was the only driver to complete 16 laps in qualifying for the Top Qualifying honors. Dustin backed up qualifying by winning the class with a 13 second margin over 2nd place. Continuing his domination of the Short Course Showdown, Dustin used his Losi Ten SCT-E to TQ the 4wd Modified Class. He and Losi team mate Quincy Hughes, were the only drivers to complete 17 laps in qualifying. In fact, 7 of the top 10 drivers chose the Losi TEN SCT-E as their vehicle of choice. In the Main, Dustin used his TQ position to lead from end to end with team mates Josh Glancy and Quincy finishing in 2nd and 3rd for a complete Losi podium. In the Stock Class, it was privateer Brent Burns using his Losi SCT to take the win in a battle that came down to the last turn and a drag race to the finish line. Congratulations to Dustin and Brent for the awesome drives and completing a clean sweep for Losi.

JBRL Electric Series - TLR Race Report

TLR and Losi's Frank Root, Matt Castellano, Ryan Dunford, Keith Whisler, Aaron Lane, and Doug Nielsen attended the penultimate round of the 2011 JBRL Electric Series this past Saturday at OCRC Raceway.  The track had great grip, and a fun, technical layout.  The entry count was very strong at 195 and a great day of racing was had by all.

Modified Racing Truck – Frank was on hand to run his brand new TLR 22T for the first time at a JBRL Race, and it did not disappoint.  Frank would put down a clean and very quick run in the first round of qualifying, that would not be challenged.  After trying some setup changes in round 2, Frank reverted to his Q1 setup for the main event.  On the first lap, Frank made a costly error, dropping him back to 5th, but a few quick laps and clean passes quickly got Frank back into the lead where he would remain until the end of the race.

Pro2 (Modified SC) - Frank's Losi XXX-SCT with the TLR Tuned Kit was on point again in qualifying.  Frank would run the fastest time in both of the two rounds of qualifying, taking the TQ by over 8 seconds!  The single 6-minute main started with a brief challenge from 2nd place, but Frank would soon pull away leaving the rest of the field to battle for 2nd place.  Ryan Dunford will come through the field and work his way up to the battle for 2nd, and would eventually take the spot.  Ryan was the only driver to finish on the lead lap as Frank ran a very clean main taking his 3rd A-main win this season!

Pro Buggy – This was the first ever Pro Buggy race in the history of the JBRL.  The Pro Buggy class is a 17.5T, No Timing class racing the all new Losi XXX-SCB Short Course Buggy and other comparable vehicles.  The field was 7 buggies strong, and is sure to grow in the future.

Mod 2wd point leader, Aaron Lane would have the honors of the first Pro Buggy TQ, taking it in the 2nd round just ahead of Doug Nielsen.  Come the main, Aaron has a slight issue, leaving Ryan Dunford and Doug “Casper” Nielsen to battle it out for the win.  Doug was a bit faster on the track, but little bobbles prevented him from making a pass on Ryan for the lead.  Ryan would stay clean and take the first every Pro Buggy Victory, with Casper in 2nd, and Keith Whisler finishing out the podium.

RC Pro Series - Team Durango Race Report

Ryan Lutz took the TQ & Win with both his DNX408 and prototype DEX408 1/8th scale electric buggy at the 15th round of the 2011 R/C Pro series – held at the Henry County R/C Racing (HCRCR) track in Georgia, USA.

Ryan took all 4 rounds of qualifying in both nitro buggy and 8th electric with the prototype ‘coming soon’ DEX408 electric buggy – going on to win both classes! Ryan reports on his race:

Saturday 17th September 2011:

I wish this track was closer to me! What I wouldn’t give to have a track facility like this to be able to practice at. This is my first journey to HCRCR and I already can’t wait to make a return trip. This has to be one of the top tracks I have ever been to and has one of the nicest driver stands I have ever seen! If your ever in the Atlanta area you have to stop on out or plan a trip to race here!

This weeks event is my second qualification round for the R/C Pro Series for this year. So far it is going great after qualifications. I was able to TQ all 4 rounds of both Nitro Buggy with my Durango DNX408 and E-Scale with my Durango DEX408. Tomorrow for the mains there is a 45 min A for Nitro and triple 10min mains for E-Scale.

Sunday 18th September 2011:

The track started to blow out a little in a few sections and it just made picking your lines that much more critical. The morning was cold with what seemed to be a ‘marine layer’ type of clouds keeping the temps down but after noon the sun broke through and the temps heated up.

In E-Scale we did triple A-mains. In A number 1 I got out to a quick lead but made a mistake and fell into 2nd. I got the lead back and crashed again and gave the lead up. This time I took it back and gapped out to around 8 seconds with a lap to go. Well I decided to make it interesting and I crashed and it was a slower marshal job and 2nd got within a second of me but I held on for a final clean lap and took the victory.

In A2 I decided to just put all my crashes at the beginning of the run. I fell back to 2nd and even 3rd a couple times. With about 7 minutes to go though I cleaned it up and set out to dwindle down my 10 second deficit. The leader was staying clean but I was able to put in laps about .5 – 1 second quicker and began to catch up. Then with like 3 minutes to go I was within a second and crashed! Now on the last couple laps I worked my way back up and it was looking like it was going to be a battle at the end but a lapped car got me bobbled a bit and on the last few corners I just let it hang out but fell just short getting 2nd by just over 1 second.

In A3 I made sure there was no reoccurrence of the last two runs. The sun had come out and heated up the track a bit and it’s just what my car needed. I took off and never looked back. I ran a nearly clean run and put over a lap on the field and thus took the victory!

My Tekin 1900 with RX-8 was again flawless. My AKA Soft gridirons lasted me well for all 3 A-mains, and my Speed Power batteries provided me with all the runtime I needed for the 10 minute runs and some practice laps!

Not to mention my ‘Prototype’ DEX408 was again on rails and flying!

In Nitro Buggy there was a 45 minute main to content with. There was a lot of attrition and flame outs in some of the other mains and we had 14 guys in the A-main so I knew the track was going to be crowded and the potential of a lot of casualties. Well I got the holeshot I needed from my TQ position and took an early lead. I did however make a mistake or two and fell back to 2nd for a couple of laps early on. I worked on cleaning up my act and getting into a groove and I retook the lead and just set out to extend it! About half way through the race I was making my way around to put a lap on the field. My Alpha Plus powered Durango was coming into it’s own and I was feeling more comfortable. Pablo was giving me some quick pit-stops and that was all I needed. With some flame outs and issues by some of the other top runners I continued to extend my lead and I believe I took the victory by over 2 laps.

BRCA Finals - Team Schumacher Race Report

Last weekend the BRCA Touring Car National season came to a close with a fantastic win for long time Schumacher driver Matt White in the modified class.

Once again conditions were against the drivers with the track changing seemingly every 5 minutes, making qualifying difficult for many. However Matt managed some stella qualifying runs to take the TQ spot with his Mi4CX ahead of Olly Jefferies and Tom Watts. Schumacher’s Tim Langdell and Chris Ashton also made it into the main. Notable for their absence were Chris Grainger, Andy Moore and Elliot Harper all down the field unable to put sufficient runs together throughout the weekend.

In the Pro Stock class the results conformed a little more to the norm with championship winner Ayrton Anderson continuing his domination taking TQ and the win ahead of Schumacher’s James Hart with his Mi4CX and Andy Murray. A flag to flag victory for Matt in the wet in the first leg of the finals gave him a great chance to take the overall win. A slight blip in the second leg saw Matt well down the field but a second place in the now dry conditions of the third leg saw him take his first Touring Car National win!! A fantastic achievement for a guy who has been a loyal servant to the Schumacher brand since 1997!!

Chris Kerswell was second and Olly Jefferies third. Schumacher’s Chris Ashton made fourth from the 7 spot and Tim Langdell 9th.

Congratulations to Matt on a great win and all the team for a great performance over the year!

Next up the carpet season!!

Aussiemove Championship - OCR Raceway Report

Another awesome night of racing saw some fantastic action in the Short Course Truck control class, with NT #3 Beau Harris taking a 3 point win over NT #2 Danny White, Shane Ussher a very close third on equal points, the gap after a whole night of racing was 0.403 of a second.

The B Truck class saw Michael Evans pull off a good win over young Karlo Dayap, Karlo will be one of the young guns to watch out for over the coming months, Adam Davies just hanging on for third over his younger brother Joshua Davies, another of the up and coming drivers.

The Pro Buggy class as always putting on an awesome show for the spectators, with Marc Christianson on the pace early, just missing the Holeshot record by 0.4 of a second, Nathan Tampe, Tim Nicol and Tony Knauth, pushing hard all night with every race a very close contest with mere tenths of seconds seperating them at the end of each race. Going into the final round of the night only 1 point seperating Nicol and Knauth at the top of the leaderboard with 2 round wins each, the final race would decide the night, Knauth getting the better of Nicol in the end to take the race win by 6.78 secs, and the outright event win.

Sport Buggy saw a great battle over the night between, Danny White driving an RB ONE, Blake Ingleton - MBX6 and Paul Mansell - MBX6, the boys battling hard all night with White taking the win over Ingleton and Mansell, Henri Raafs - Hyper 9, Nathan Weiss - Hyper 9 and Gary Clark - Hyper Star rounding out the Top 5 Sport Buggy's.

Italian Championship - Contact Tyres Report

Last weekend Dario Balestri won the prestigious Italian Championship in Expert class at the 3rd and last race of the Italian Nationals.

Dario finished second at the race in Melzo which was enough to ensure the title.

Dario was driving Capricorn-Novarossi-Contact Tyres-MLC and Savox just like at the recent EC 1/8th in Luxemburg this year where he set the TQ.

Congratulations on another national title for the Contact Tyre brand.
