Avid RC is ready to release a new Guardian V2 slim 2wd front carpet tire, the 4wd Guardian front carpet tire and Scalloped front insert options.

The Guardian V2 Slim Front builds on the proven Guardian V1 by eliminating the break-in run and increasing high-speed and on-power steering while maintaining the smooth, predictable handling racers expect from the Guardian lineup. Designed to deliver competitive lap times without the nervous feel of more aggressive tire designs, it also extends tire life to keep performing run after run.

Guardian V2 Improvements
After releasing the Guardian V1 and receiving feedback from racers, one request came up consistently from Mod and 17.5 drivers. They wanted a tire that was ready to race from the very first lap at major events while providing more high-speed and on-power steering, especially on lower grip tracks and tracks where tire sauce is not permitted.

That feedback led to the Guardian V2 Slim Front and the Guardian 4wd Front.

The Guardian V2 retains the smooth, linear turn-in that made the V1 easy to drive but delivers a noticeably different feel through the rest of the corner. Increased mid-corner grip and more direct steering from maintenance throttle through corner exit give racers the added steering they requested while maintaining the predictable handling that made the original Guardian so successful. At the same time, the V2 was designed to maintain competitive lap times without the nervous feel of more aggressive tire designs, while extending tire life to deliver consistent performance over more runs.

The Guardian V2 also reaches peak performance immediately without a break-in run. Whether you're mounting a fresh set for qualifying or the main, it's ready to deliver its intended performance from the very first lap.

We describe the Guardian V1 as offering mellow high-speed and on-power steering, while the Guardian V2 delivers direct high-speed and on-power steering.

Tips
We've found that even on some high-bite tracks, the Guardian front tires can be run without sidewall glue thanks to the tire's design. We recommend trying your first run without sidewall glue to see if you prefer the feel. Some racers enjoy the increased steering and compliance, while others prefer the added stability that sidewall glue provides. This is especially true on layouts where you land from a jump directly into a corner, where running without sidewall glue can be less forgiving. The good news is that it only takes one run to find out which setup you prefer for your track/layout, and you can always add sidewall glue afterward.

The Guardian 4wd Front is built on the Guardian V2 2wd Slim Front design to deliver immediate performance without a break-in run while striking the balance between steering, drivability, and tire life that today's 4WD racers have been searching for.

While many modern 4WD front tires continue to become more aggressive, the Guardian 4wd Front was designed to deliver the same competitive lap times without the nervous handling that makes those tires more difficult to drive. It gives racers the confidence to push hard, repeat fast laps, and keep the tire on the car longer.

The large Guardian outer sidewall maintains a smooth, linear turn-in while the low-profile carcass increases steering response throughout the corner. Like many of today's leading designs, we replaced the outer pins with larger shoulder lugs to keep the steering predictable while preserving lap times and extending tire life.

*These are what are commonly marketed as 2wd low-profile wide tires and because these are always used on the 4wd front we decided to call them 4wd fronts since this is now the standard. In the years past the 4wd front was wider and taller than these to match the height of the rear tire but racers found that it made 4wd cars impossible to drive. These could be used on a 2wd with a full width front wheel as well as a 4wd.

Scalloped foam is used in low profile 2wd/4wd front tires to provide additional support through the center of the tire without the harsh feel of a full-width insert. The cut out design allows the tire to better conform to small bumps and imperfections in the carpet, improving consistency while providing the support needed to prevent the center of the tire from folding under load.

Features:

  • A medium-density open-cell foam with scalloped cuts to allow the foam to have a range of firmness for better track compliance.
  • The center is left in the packaging to ensure the foam retains its shape before use.
  • Includes: (2) scalloped dark grey foams
