December 10 - 11 Maitland Off Road Radio Control car club (MORCC) held the first 1/8 Electric Buggy NSW State Championships and also in conjunction with 1/10 Short Course titles.
Short course classes were, 10.5 T, 2wd Open and 4wd Open classes.
I entered myself into 2wd Open Short Course and also 1/8 Electric buggy.
This was my home track, and most likely favourite to win. But a lot of fast drivers were going to be there including the likes of Mat Primmer, KC Shore, Justin Snape, Desi Hanrahan, Ari Bakla and Andrew Gillot. Bakla and Gillot could not make it but this didn't mean it was going to make it any easier to grab the win.
Saturday was 4 qualifying rounds for 1/8. I managed to TQ 3 out of 4 and giving RND4 TQ to Mat Primmer as my rear diff failed. Sunday was 2 more Qualifying for 1/8 EP and 3 rounds for 2wd open short course.
Taking 5 out of 6 rounds of Qualifying for I managed overall TQ for 1/8 EP BUGGY. Also slammed out all 3 rounds fo 2wd open SC to take overall TQ for that as well.
So TQ in both and feeling confident. KC Shore was getting faster though which was a concern and also Dallas Gardiner posting sub 31 second laps was alarming also. These guys were going to be fast and both starting directly behind me on the grid in EP8 A Finals.
My Durango DEX408 prototype was working a dream, running same setup as my previous win in South Australia only weeks before. I made some small adjustment to shock position and sway bar and my car was super fast. Setting 30.000 second lap in A1. I ran the famous AKA City Block and I-beam combo which worked well especially in the subtle dusty conditions.
My HPI Racing Blitz ESE was box standard, just making it a little firmer in the rear and running Proline Sniper SC M3 all round gave me the grip i needed.
FINALS:
EP8 was feeling good. A1 and A2 saw me take the win comfortably as I lapped the complete field. I sat out A3 letting KC Shore and Mat Primmer battle for podium finishes. I Also had a similar results in 2wd Open SC. But not so comfortable. Desi Hanrhan (Q2) stuck it with my the whole A finals in A1 and A2 showing he had pace, but my consistency showed and gave me the overall win in both classes.
Big thanks to everyone who helped me get here. 4 State Championships in 3 months. Great achievement
