JConcepts FSEARA R5 Race Report

Last weekend was Round #5 of the 2020-2021 FSEARA (Florida State Electric Auto Racing Association) On-Road Series. The host track was Coral Springs RC Raceway Coral Springs, FL and there was a total of 94 entries competing in 8 different classes.

Saturday was a practice day for all drivers to work on their car’s setup and get a feel for the fresh layout. Drivers put down a ton of laps and traction was very high that day.

On Sunday the winds picked up which made the track conditions a little more difficult as the strong winds brought in sand, dirt, leaves and other debris that would cover the track surface. The track crew did an excellent job blowing the track off in between rounds to get the surface back into race conditions, and drivers had to adjust their cars on the fly as the battled the elements which included colder air temps.

They also ran three qualifiers plus all the mains that day too, so Sunday was a long, packed day of fun and competitive racing. To secure the TQ in each class a driver’s best qualifying round was used. The top 10 drivers in each class were locked into the main and no bumps were used from the lower mains. So let’s check in on the team to see how they performed at this round of the series.

In the Mod Touring Car class, JConcepts driver Felix Law dominated qualifying as he TQed all three rounds! In the 6 minute A Main he would lead the pack from start to finish to secure the win for the weekend! Joining him on the podium in 3rd place was JConcepts teammate Dave Vera!

The biggest and most competitive class of the weekend was the Super Stock class with 34 entries! Dave was able to TQ this class by setting the fastest time of the weekend in round 3 of qualifying! In the single 6 minute A Main Dave would lead for a lap before an unfortunate incident on the track dropped him back to 5th place by the second lap. He would battle his way through the pack but just missed out on making the podium and had to settle for 4th overall. While he was trying to get back into the lead, his teammate Troy Schafer jumped into 3rd place early on in the race and would stay there until he moved to 2nd overall on the 16th lap. As time expired he crossed the line with a 0.307 lead over 3rd place to lock up the 2nd podium spot for the team that day!
