New JConcepts Ballistic 2.0" Crawler Wheel

JConcepts kicks off a new crawler wheel movement with the 2.0” Ballistic wheels for 1.9” bead mounting tires. The base construction of the wheel centers around a CNC machined aluminum slot-based wheel design. The six slots array about the center allowing ample space for included bolt in hex adaptor in the center.  The wheel features a very positive offset which gives builders the opportunity to narrow the track width of the vehicle, or with optional hex adaptors widen out to desired width.

From a design standpoint, the 2.0” size was selected to give more inside wheel diameter clearance to fit over a variety of portal axle adaptations used today. With the larger diameter wheel, a more positive offset, it’s possible to move the center of the wheel closer to the kingpin. In the performance world, this limits the scrub radius and creates less weight jacking effect over the vehicle. Overall width still provides stability and, in many circumstances, regardless of position, it’s beneficial to have the widest track width that fits into the rules, that is the reason for optional hex adaptors.

The gunmetal gray anodizing of the wheel provides ultra clean looks; the all-through six slot design is only interrupted by double mini slots which are chamfered to provide even the tiniest details. In the center of the wheel, the included 4.5mm hex adaptor is bolted using 3mm BHCS hardware in six places giving massive security to the wheel. In between each screw, a recessed bore provides even more finish and custom details to improve trailside appeal.

A steel center locking ring is included to hold the tire beads nice and tight without any deflection of material properties while also giving a little additional weight to the assembly. The Ballistic wheel assembles using an aluminum machined and black anodized bead lock ring which has twelve heavy-duty 3mm BHCS screw positions to help lock the beads for the most security possible. The bead lock rings have been counterbored, so the hardware sits as flush as possible, and the geometry of the ring tightly borders the hardware with recessed pockets for extra curb appeal.

Note: The Ballistic wheel package contains 2x M3x12 BHCS screws to help begin the build process of the JConcepts wheels. Since a tight bead mount is critical to performance, it’s easier to begin a build using the included long screws in opposite directions on the wheel. Start the process by installing the screws and actively push or maneuver the beads of the tire into place with a flat head screwdriver. After the bead lock ring starts to lower and tire beads take a set, start securing the remaining screws on the bead lock ring and evenly lowering the bead lock with screws until the final clamp against the wheel is obtained. Remember to replace the M3x12 starter screws with M3x6 to finalize so no screw overhangs exist inside the wheel.
