The Wheeling Shootout @ 4th St RC Raceway Presented by Elite RC Hobbies was the first of the 4 race TriState Summer Oval Series, it featured great side by side racing and some record breaking results at grey oval in WV.

Chris Ford ran away with the Legend A Main after a few lead swaps with Duke (Nuk’em) Rogers who has found some big speed in his Legends racer, after a few changes Ford ran away with a 63 lap performance, He was followed by Duke Rogers and Mike Shook.

The Shootout had a good field of Euro Truck for this event, Dale “The Reverend” Rogers took TQ (46 laps) with a hot rig by only 1 second over Mike “Magic” Johnson. In the A Main, Rogers was still fast but Johnson took the lead away early only to lose it and see Rogers take the checkers. Johnson was second and George “of the Jungle’ Fetsko rebounded from an early bad move to take 3rd.

Tour truck had a fast field of cars but TQ went to Keith Price out of Ohio. In the A Main Keith was checking out on an 80 lap pace with Mike Moore Jr about a third of a lap behind but ready to pounce.  Price a hot shoe in Tour Truck where ever he runs may have been a little too fast and had trouble with lappers as he was passing some many cars each circuit around the track, ultimately a lapper ended his day with a crash on the front stretch after way too many close calls. When the dust settled Mike Moore Jr persevered with Gary Boring only a second behind in his bad ass Count Chocula car and Brandon Hill filling the podium.

In the Mudboss A Main, locals Mike Johnson and Fetsko, got to put their machines up against the Allen boys; Garrett and Kevin, two of the best carpet Mudboss racers in the region if not anywhere. In the heat races Kevin Allen broke the track record for laps by a couple of seconds but was out done by son Garrett who broke it too but by a lap. Qualifying was close among Garrett Allen (60 laps) Kevin Allen (59 laps and Fetsko (59 laps) so the A main was going to be a barn burner. At the tone, Garrett took off with Kevin about 6 feet behind and Fetsko 2 behind Kevin.  Kevin and George raced close for 40 laps before George was able to make the pass on the elder Allen, while that battle went on, the younger Allen was able to stretch his lead and eventually get by the battling duo. Keven kept the pressure on George and it paid off went Fetsko clipped the inner rail as he buckled under the pressure. The podium looked like this: Garrett Allen (76 laps) Kevin Allen (75 laps) and George Fetsko (75 laps)

Many thanks got to 4th Street RC Raceway for putting on a great show, the track deserves a visit by anyone racing carpet oval or off-road.  Thanks to Elite RC Hobbies for supporting the event. Finally, all the racers who came out, it was a great show.

Next up is the Summer Sizzler at Austintown Hobby, in Austintown Ohio. Race date is June 23 watch the TriState Summer Oval Series Facebook page for the next event.
