Dynamite Machined Hex Driver Set (Metric)
$29.99

We are always looking for the latest and greatest ways to work on our cars. We got our hands on the Dynamite R/C Machined Hex Driver Set to see what we think. While these are not necessarily something new to the market, they are new to us, and we were anxious to try them out.

The Dynamite R/C Machined Hex Driver Set is available in Standard or Metric versions. Both feature the four most popular size hex wrenches. We chose the Metric version which gave us a 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm, and 3.0mm hex driver. Each driver features replaceable tips, knurled handles, and clearly marked sizes.

Pros:
  • Knurled handles make it easy to get the grip necessary to loosen even the tightest screws.
  • Hex tips seem to be quite durable.
  • Hex tips fit snug in the screws, which keeps from stripping out screw heads.
  • Includes a plastic carrying case with foam cutouts to keep them organized.

Cons:
  • The sizes are clearly labeled on the handles, however, different color end caps would be a nice addition to make identifying the right size even easier.
  • Slightly smaller than we are used to. This makes fitting them in the toolbox easy, but doesn't give you reach that some others do.

While some might believe that "you get what you pay for," we feel as though with the Dynamite R/C Machined Hex Driver Set you get a little more than what you paid for. For $30 you receive four of the most popular sized hex drivers, a re-usable plastic carrying case, and quality wrenches.

AVID R/C Bearing Kit
(Price varies per kit)

It was finally time we do some maintenance on our well-abused short course truck, and we decided to start with changing out all of the old bearings. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to track down which bearings, whats sizes, and how many of each you need to fully replace them all. We turned to the team at AVID R/C for help.

By simply visiting AVID R/C's website they offer a long list of bearing kits for a long list of different vehicles. By simply choosing our vehicle we were able to order an entire bearing kit at once, as opposed to trying to find each bearing one by one. We were then surprised to find that using their new FlexKit program on the site, we can choose what model of bearing we want for each different size. For example, in high wear areas such as the drive train we decided we would go with high dollar ceramic bearings. In less abused areas such as the steering rack, we went with your very standard bearing that just gets the job done.

Pros:
  • Eliminates the frustration of piecing together a "bearing kit" of your own one bearing at a time.
  • FlexKit program allows for you to choose the quality and type of bearing you are looking for per size.
  • Various bearing sizes are separated in re-usable AVID bearing tubes.
  • Includes a re-sealable bag to help keep you organized.

Cons:
  • We didn't look into this sooner.

Conclusion:
The AVID R/C bearing kit fit our truck perfectly, including all of the necessary bearings to replace ALL of the old ones. By using the FlexKit system, we were able to spend the extra money only where necessary to keep our truck working smooth. The re-usable bearing tubes are very handy to store not only bearings, but tiny screws, and various small objects as well. Overall we are very satisfied with not only the quality of the AVID R/C bearing kits, but also the easy to use customizable ordering system on the site.

THURSDAY TESTIMONIALS - RANDOM ITEM OF THE WEEK:
Each week outside of the R/C world we test out and use a variety of items in our daily routines that have absolutely nothing to do with R/C, and THIS is what we think of them!

Bell Airstrike Tire Pump
$9.00

Some people can take a wheelchair and make the entire thing last 8-10 years with MAYBE two or three tire changes along the way. I so far have successfully "totaled out" a wheelchair almost every 2 years to the day with at least four tire changes per chair. Needless to say my trusty glow in the dark chair is on its last leg, and taking its final steps. When humans hit this point they resort to wheelchairs, but when wheelchairs hit this point they resort to the back corner of the basement and are used as a mobile storage shelf for random junk. In an effort to keep ol' Bessie alive, I decided to put a fresh set of tires on. In order to do so I purchased the Bell Airstrike Tire Pump to help out.

This chrome beauty is a lot like Lady Gaga. There are times you think, "Wow this thing is amazing!" Then there are the times you think, "What am I looking at, and why am I wasting my time here."

The Airstrike started out working like a boss, when all of the sudden a few pumps in and it gave way. It leaks air, won't fill the tire past 14-15psi, and with a lack of pressure I cannot get the tire to pop onto the bead. With this being said, I was forced to turn to YouTube for a better way to mount my tires. I followed the example shown in the video below:

This method, like the Airstrike Pump proved to be very unsuccessful, and slightly dangerous. In turn, all thanks to the AirStrike tire pump, I have a wheelchair with no tires, crispy burnt eyebrows, and an unsure feeling towards Lady Gaga.

(This gets a 1 because it is chrome, and in the backwoods where I live chrome is cool.)
